27th April 2005 Trowbridge finish season with comfortable away win

Hook Norton 0 Trowbridge Town 3

Trowbridge completed their league campaign with a comfortable win at Hook Norton. The home side had a goal ruled out for offside in the fourth minute but Trowbridge took the lead a minute later. Dave Percival found Matt Cooper whose shot was just strong enough to cross the line as a defender tried to clear. With 15 minutes gone Trowbridge were awarded a corner which Ricky Trott headed towards goal but the ‘keeper saved well and the ball was scrambled away for another corner. Daniel Barnes made it 2-0 forcing the ball home from close range as the corner came across from Dave Percival. Percival earned another corner after 25 minutes with a good run in the left wing. This created the third goal.  A Matt Cooper header was pushed upwards by the goalkeeper but the ball dropped over the line despite efforts to clear by a defender. Adam Nunn struck the crossbar with a fine shot before half-time, the ball bounced down and onto the goal-line before being cleared. Hook Norton nearly pulled a goal back in the last minute of the first half but Walled Bakali cleared off the line to keep a clean sheet. Trowbridge dominated the second half but could not add to their score. Dan Lardner, Dave Percival & Adam Nunn all having attempts that were either saved or went wide.

23rd April 2005 Second half comeback provides exciting finish to home fixtures

Trowbridge Town 5 Cheltenham Saracens 3

An exciting second half comeback turned this match around for Trowbridge and kept their slim Championship hopes alive. They fell behind to an Andy Mackintosh free-kick after only three minutes but soon levelled with a free-kick of their own. Adam Nunn finding the top right corner, from just outside the penalty area. Nunn could have scored just before but his shot was poor after a fine run and cut-back by Dave Percival. Trowbridge had the edge on possession but the well organised Cheltenham side claimed the lead back after 36 minutes. Mackintosh again the scorer, doing well to finish from just inside the box whilst under pressure.

Daniel Barnes diving header making it 3-2

Dave Mitchell heads home the fifth

Trowbridge started well in the second half but fell further behind after 58 minutes. Adam Sheppard could not hold onto a free kick and Stuart Mitchinson pounced from close range to make it 3-1.Trowbridge responded almost immediately. Matt Cooper crossed for Daniel Barnes to score with a diving header in the 61st minute and then added a second himself a minute later running through and driving in a low shot. With the score now level, Trowbridge started to dominate and an exciting last 25 minutes saw them create many goal scoring opportunities. Adam Nunn made it 4-3 in the 75th minute, pure determination forcing the ball just inside the post from about 10 yards as a defender tried to prevent the shot. Dave Mitchell, Dan Lardner and Adam Glover all came on as substitutes towards the end. Mitchell added the fifth with a header from close range after the Cheltenham goalkeeper had made a save from Percival. With two minutes remaining Mitchell set up Lardner with a square pass but his shot went over the bar. The Cheltenham goalkeeper also made a fine stop at the feet of Mitchell when he was clean through in the last minute. The final score of 5-3 was a great advert for Hellenic League football and a fine last home match of the season.

16th April 2005 Headington battle to earn stalemate.

Trowbridge Town 0 Headington Amateurs 0

Trowbridge failed to breakdown a well organised Headington defence and therefore surrendered the top spot to Shrivenham. Trowbridge went close after 2 minutes, a good move that started in midfield led to a cross by Adam Nunn but Dave Percival was forced wide by a defender.  Headington then forced a couple of corners which were dealt with comfortably by the home defence. Trowbridge nearly took the lead on 12 minutes with Nunn and Percival combining well but Nunn was thwarted by an excellent last ditch tackle to concede a corner. Headington threatened mainly from set pieces and following a corner, Luke Brandon shot over from just outside the penalty area.  With 32 minutes gone, Adam Sheppard uncharacteristically let a corner slip though his hands but Lee Wilson cleared off the line to keep the score-line blank. Three minutes later, Ricky Trott headed a cross back across goal to Percival but his first time shot went over the crossbar.  Trott also went close before the half time whistle with a flick type shot that went over the bar and a header that he couldn’t quite get on target.

The second half was similar with Trowbridge playing quite well but failing to test Dan Bianchini, the Headington ‘keeper with any shots on target. A quick free kick by Adam Nunn picked out Gordon Saunderson after 51 minutes but despite timing his run perfectly, he guided his volley just wide of the post. Once again Headington threatened on the break to force three consecutive corners but the Trowbridge defence stood firm, Luke Smith in particular timing every interception to perfection and Adam Sheppard back to his usual good handling standards. Trowbridge had the best of the chances towards the end. Dan Lardner volleyed wide after 61 minutes, doing well to get on the end of a Waleed Bakali cross.  Both sides however, may have stolen the points in the last 10 minutes. Adam Sheppard smothering the ball well at the feet of a Headington forward and then with only 3 minutes remaining the Headington wall had a job to do. Adan Nunn was brought down just outside the area and the subsequent free kick, taken by substitute Simon Kitchen was blocked.

9th April 2005 Percival Late Show Keeps Trowbridge Top

Trowbridge Town 2 Easington Sports 0

Trowbridge found themselves under a lot of pressure in the first half as Easington with the wind at their backs attacked in the early stages. They nearly took the lead after 18 minutes when the ball rebounded from a post and a second shot looked goal-bound but Lee Wilson cleared off the line. A minute later Michael Barnes struck a dipping shot for Trowbridge which went over the bar from just outside the area.  The best opportunity of the first half fell to Easington just before half-time.  Steve Worthington found space on the left and hit a powerful shot from 20 yards which Adam Sheppard did well to parry and push up into the air and then punch clear as the ball came back down.

In the second half, it was the home sides’ turn to pile on the pressure with the wind at their backs but a very well organised Easington defence kept clear cut chances to a minimum. In the early stages of the second half a delicate chip by Michael Barnes hit the top of the crossbar and Adam Nunn tested the nerves of the Easington defence with some in-swinging corners one of which looked as if it was going in but was headed off  the line with ‘keeper Richard Meadows beaten. Meadows did well after 71 minutes though, intercepting a through ball which Ricky Trott was chasing to clear well.  Despite pressure from Trowbridge, the visitors nearly stole the lead with 10 minutes remaining.  Adam Daley was through on goal but Sheppard made another vital save.  With three minutes remaining Adam Smith picked out Dave Percival on the left wing with a free kick and Percival went past two defenders before firing a lethal shot into the opposite side of the goal to break the deadlock and set up a frantic finish. First, Easington had a goal ruled out for offside, then as the game reached the final two minutes, Percival repeated his earlier run from the left wing but this time picked out Gavin Eyre in front of goal to force the ball home and make the game safe.

2nd April 2005 Town held at Winterbourne

Winterbourne United 1 Trowbridge Town 1

This was a good performance by Trowbridge despite the points dropped. Winterbourne nearly took an early lead after three minutes, Scott Cameron shooting wide with only Adam Sheppard to beat after a mistake by Adam Glover. Two minutes later Trowbridge went close, Adam Nunn hitting the post direct from a corner and a Winterbourne defender clearing off the line when Andy Bloodworth hit the rebound towards goal. Trowbridge looked the more likely but it was Winterbourne that took a first half lead. Darren Andrews running through to slot the ball past Sheppard after 22 minutes. Trowbridge were unable to find an equaliser despite some good pressure. Some excellent interplay between Matt Cooper, Adam Nunn and Gavin Eyre saw the latter scrape the crossbar. Andy Bloodworth also had two chances, one blocked and one that went wide before the half time whistle.

In the second half the pattern continued with Trowbridge looking for the equaliser. Gavin Eyre played a nice one-two with Matt Cooper in the 54th minute and was through on goal but Tom Shepherd saved with his feet to concede a corner. Winterbourne attacked on the break and forced a few corners but failed to test Sheppard with any direct shots at goal. The Trowbridge goal was set up by Waleed Bakali after 57 minutes. He gained possession in midfield and played a nice through ball for Dave Percival to run onto and he made no mistake with a low shot past Shepherd. With time running out, Trowbridge continued to press forward, occasionally leaving themselves vulnerable at the back but Shepherd denied Andy Bloodworth with another good save with his feet and Winterbourne held out for the draw.

28th March 2005 Bank Holiday Stroll For Trowbridge

Trowbridge Town 4 Malmesbury Vics 0

Daniel Barnes heads wide early in the match.

Trowbridge brushed aside Malmesbury in this very one-sided match. Matt Cooper had already shot wide and had a shot saved before opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Dave Percival with a good run towards the post, cutting the ball back for Cooper to rifle the ball into the roof of the net. (picture right). Roles were reversed in the 27th minute, Cooper heading a throw-in into the path of Percival, who then ran though to finish well under pressure from Paul Hudson. (picture bottom right).  Cooper then made it three in the 40th minute, gaining

possession inside the area and going past one defender before drilling the ball past Stuart Pound.  In the second half, Trowbridge continued to camp inside the Malmesbury half but failed to create the same number of clear cut chances. Neil Kirkpatrick brought on Dan Lardner & Dave Mitchell in an all out attack but the bank-holiday crowd had to wait until the 87th minute for the final goal. Mitchell hit a good shot that was parried by Pound but as the ball broke loose, Lardner got to the ball first and cut it back across goal for Mitchell to tap home.

26th March 2005 Substitute Barnes takes Town back to the top

Tytherington Rocks 2 Trowbridge Town 3

Trowbridge returned to the top of the table with this win. Tytherington attacked from the kick off but Trowbridge were awarded a free kick on the right wing after 5 minutes. Adam Nunn floated the free kick across goal and Ricky Trott rose between two defenders to head the ball past Rob Dent to claim the lead.  The visitors nearly extended their lead after 12 minutes, Dave Percival pulling a pass back from the goal-line for Adan Nunn to hit a low shot that was turned round the post by Dent. Trowbridge lost Ricky Trott with a leg injury, Adrian Barnes coming on as substitute. Waleed Bakali almost extended the lead after 28 minutes but his shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Tytherington attacked on the half hour and although there were no penalty appeals, the assistant referee spotted a shirt-pull and after consultation a penalty was awarded. Jimmy Potts made no mistake to level the score for half time.
Adam Glover replaced Lee Wilson for the restart. There were no chances for either side for best part of the second half as the two top sides cancelled each other out and neither ‘keeper had a direct shot to save. Everything changed however, with 73 minutes gone. Adam Nunn played a short pass for Dave Percival to screw a shot across goal where Adrian Barnes ghosted in to get to the ball just ahead of the goalkeeper and force the ball home to give Trowbridge a 2-1 lead. Seven minutes later Percival produced a great run down the right wing and hit a cross that picked out Adrian Barnes at the far post to head in the third. The game looked safe but Tytherington did not give up and a fine shot from Jimmy Potts flew into the top corner of the Trowbridge net to pull it back to 3-2 and set up a thrilling last 10 minutes. Both sides went close, a Tytherington shot went just wide and a run by Andy Bloodworth produced a shot from Percival in the last minute that was saved by Dent.

19th March 2005 Vital points dropped at Cirencester

Cirencester United 1 Trowbridge Town 1

Trowbridge dropped vital points in a match, which only really came to life in the second half. They had the lion’s share of possession but nearly fell behind in the 15th minute. Adam Sheppard doing well to save a shot from Dan Bailey. Trowbridge pressed without really creating clear cut chances until the 37th minute when a superb 25 yard effort from Waleed Bakali struck the crossbar. Earlier Cooper had tried his luck a couple of times without really troubling the Cirencester goalkeeper. Just before the break, Cooper really should have scored though, heading over the bar from close range following a good curling cross from Dave Percival.

Trowbridge started to play much better football in the second half with not so many high balls but were shocked in the 51st minute. A misunderstanding between Bakali & Saunderson in midfield gave away possession and Aiden Winney ran through to strike a fierce shot from 20 yards to give the home side the lead against the run of play. It only took Trowbridge 12 minutes to pull level. Bakali made an exhilarating run down the left wing, cut inside and provided the perfect pass for substitute Dan Lardner to force the ball home from close range. Trowbridge went looking for the win with the odd dangerous counterattack being the only threat from Cirencester. Saunderson had two shots in succession blocked by the goalkeeper and the third attempt, this time from Percival sailed over the bar. Trowbridge continued to attack until the final whistle. Percival having two shots saved and the same player pulling the ball back across goal after a fine run only to see the ball skip past everyone and go for a throw in on the opposite side.

12th March 2005 Trowbridge beat stubborn Clanfield

Trowbridge Town 2 Clanfield FC 0

Trowbridge attack in the second half

Trowbridge returned to the top of the table with a fine win against a vastly improved Clanfield side. Trowbridge attacked from the start, Dave Mitchell running onto a through ball in the 5th minute but ‘keeper Jason Hunt got to the ball first. After 11 minutes, Trowbridge were awarded a free kick taken by Adam Nunn but the resultant header form Ricky Trott went over the crossbar. Clanfield almost took the lead after 14 minutes. David Hamill poking a shot towards goal from close range but Adam Sheppard saved well with his feet. A minute later at the other end, Adam Nunn scooped the ball past Hunt but the ball went inches wide of the post. Gordon Saunderson and Dave Percival both went close before half time but the well-organised Clanfield defence kept the score line blank.

Dave Percival gives Trowbridge the lead from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Trowbridge continued to pass the ball well and some excellent play led to an Adam Nunn cross that Percival headed over the crossbar. In the 54th minute, Dave Mitchell should have given Trowbridge the lead. He was through one-on-one with the goalkeeper but Hunt did well to block the shot. Mitchell should have been allowed a second one-on-one opportunity shortly afterwards but was deemed offside as he ran through when clearly he wasn’t. However, fortunes tend to even out and Trowbridge were awarded a penalty on the hour for a handball. The decision seemed a little harsh but Dave Percival tucked the ball away nicely to make it 1-0. Neil Kirkpatrick brought on new signings Dan Lardner & Paul Ranger and both did well. Lardner had three chances in quick succession. His efforts were saved in the 76th & 79th minute. But the one in between with 76 minutes gone was put away from close range to make the game safe at 2-0. In the latter part of the match Clanfield did not give up, Dave Hamill hit the inside of a post with a shot across goal with a couple of minutes remaining. However, Trowbridge could also have added to their total, Dave Percival nearly making it three with the last shot of the match but Hunt saved well yet again.

5th March 2005 Defeat at Quarry

Quarry Nomads 4 Trowbridge Town 2

Trowbridge lost top spot in the league with the disappointment of this away defeat. Quarry took an early lead, Sims striking a shot from well outside the area, which gave debutant Shaun Bryant little chance. Trowbridge were back on lever terms within a couple of minutes. Dave Mitchell setting up Gavin Eyre to score from inside the area. The game seemed to settle into a pattern after the early goals, Trowbridge playing some decent football but being thwarted by some tough tackling midfield and defensive play. Quarry pushed their back four up to catch the visiting forwards offside and most of the time getting it right.  Dave Percival sprung the trap on one occasion and beat the Quarry goalkeeper only to see his shot rebound from a post.  Quarry also hit a post before taking a half-time lead, Ryan smashing the ball into the roof of the net after 35 minutes following a cross from the right wing.
The second half followed the same pattern with Trowbridge pushing forward, looking for an equaliser but were shocked in the 70th minute when Lawrence put Quarry 3-1 up against the run of play. He ran onto to a through ball and just squeezed the ball between Bryant and the post. Trowbridge continued to put pressure on, but the Quarry defence made some timely tackles to keep the score at 3-1 and the goalkeeper also made some vital stops. Trowbridge gave themselves hope of salvaging a point in the 83rd minute. Adam Nunn doing really well on the left wing to get the ball into the area and Dave Mitchell forced the ball home from close range. Dreams of a comeback were unfortunately short lived two minutes later when O’Callaghan grabbed a fourth for Quarry with five minutes remaining.

26th February 2005 Middle Barton Thrashed!

Trowbridge Town 9 Middle Barton 1

Middle Barton, complete with a new management team had beaten Cheltenham Saracens the previous week but any signs of extending their mini-revival was soon set aside as Trowbridge recorded their biggest win of the season. Dave Percival opened the scoring after eight minutes, Booker Woodford laying a short pass for Percival to fire into the roof of the net from inside the penalty area. The visitors equalised immediate following the restart. The ball was played forward to Borham and he made no mistake with a fine shot into the bottom corner of the net. Borham very nearly put Middle Barton in front in the 24th minute but for a fine save from Adan Sheppard, diving full length to his right and pushing the ball round the post for a corner. Trowbridge then took control. Some good interplay involving Andy Bloodworth set up Gavin Eyre to shoot and score with 28 minutes gone. Two minutes later Adam Nunn sent a ball down the left wing for Percival to run onto, beat one player and slot the ball home to make it 3-1.  In the 35th minute, Waleed Bakali made it four. The ball was played in from the right wing and he even had time to wait for the ball to bounce up before guiding the ball home with a header.

Trowbridge piled on the pressure in the second half. Dave Percival went close in the 53rd minute and then set up Gavin Eyre to make it 5-1. Percival cutting the ball back from the goal line for Eyre to score easily. Substitute Michael Barnes headed over from close range in the 61st minute and two minutes later Gavin Eyre set up Adam Nunn to score with a shot that went in off the post. At the other end, Adam Sheppard was tested only once, saving well on the edge of his area. He injured himself in the process and shortly afterwards was replaced by Manager, Neil Kirkpatrick. Dave Percival completed his hat trick and made it seven, rounding the goalkeeper in the 73rd minute and claimed his fourth with a nice run through and finish with 79 minutes gone. The crowd now sensed double figures but the Middle Barton ‘keeper made some decent stops before Gavin Eyre completed his hat trick with five minute remaining to make the final score 9-1

19th February 2005 Town win against stubborn Ross to go back top

Paul Ratnet

Trowbridge returned to the top of the league with this hard earned win. The scoreline would have been somewhat different but for some excellent goalkeeping by Richard Newman and some poor finishing by the home side. Trowbridge had early chances from Ricky Trott & Adan Nunn but Newman denied them both.  Ross counterattacked in the 9th minute with a free kick that Adam Sheppard pushed for a corner and then 5 minutes later, took the lead against the run of play. Sheppard doing very well to keep out a free kick from long range but Nawaz Mucadam was on hand to score from close range. Despite the goal, the pattern of the game did not change, with Trowbridge building attack after attack and the Ross defence doing their job well to hang on to their lead. In the 17th minute Adan Nunn came close to an equaliser, Newman just doing enough to push the ball onto a post and gather the rebound. Newman made another save from Nunn and one from Dave Mitchell before the half hour. The equaliser came after 39 minutes. Dave Percival did well to keep possession and cross towards Gavin Eyre. It looked as if Eyre had failed to control the ball well enough but Dave Mitchell pounced on the loose ball to rifle the ball home.

The second half started in a similar vein, Dave Percival having three good opportunities, which were all saved by Richard Newman. Ross rarely attacked but Adam Sheppard had to be alert in the 77th minute, pushing a shot over the crossbar. Dave Mitchell headed a chance wide a minute later before claiming the winner with nine minutes remaining. Once again Newman doing very well to push an Adam Nunn shot against the post but the ball sat up nicely for Mitchell to head the winner.

12th February 2005 2nd half comeback not enough for Trowbridge

Devizes Town 2 Trowbridge Town 1

Adam Nunn struck a good shot over the bar in the 7th minute to give Trowbridge a promising start but everything changed in the 9th minute. Devizes were awarded a corner and Dave Kilmurray headed the ball down for Andy Coombes to score the opener. Trowbridge struggled to find their form; with too many passes going astray and too much possession being given away in midfield.  Ricky Trott produced the only shot on target having been set up by Waleed Bakali but it went straight at Andy King the Devizes goalkeeper in the 22nd minute. The second goal came as no surprise after 32 minutes. Dave Kilmurray having his first shot saved well by the feet of Adam Sheppard but the ball rebounded back to Kilmurray and he made no mistake with his second effort. Trowbridge had a couple of attempts before half time, Gavin Eyre shot wide and Ricky Trott headed wide but any real chance of a comeback looked unlikely.
The second half was much different with Trowbridge playing the sort of football that the supporters have come to expect. They were back in the match in the 64th minute. A great through ball from Dave Percival picked out Dave Mitchell and he rounded the ‘keeper to slot the ball home from an acute angle. With Trowbridge looking for the equaliser there were occasions when the defence had to be alert. Substitute Adam Glover making a superb last-ditch tackle to deny a Devizes forward and Adam Sheppard tipping over a good shot for a corner with eight minutes remaining. The longer the match went on, the more Trowbridge looked as if they might force extra time but it wasn’t to be and Devizes progressed through to the semi-final on the strength of their first half performance.

9th February 2005 Almondsbury though to final

Almondsbury Town 3 Trowbridge Town 1 (agg 3-1)

Trowbridge finally succumbed to premier division opposition in a hard fought semi-final second leg. Almondsbury were in front straight from the kick off. Craig Davidge beating the Trowbridge defence with a run down the right followed by a vicious cross that crept inside the far post to the dismay of everyone. The match began to settle down and Trowbridge began to pass the ball well on the excellent playing surface. The first shot from Trowbridge came after 17 minutes a low drive by Adam Nunn from just outside the box that was taken low to his left by the goalkeeper. Adam tried his luck again eight minutes later, beating one player and striking a low shot across goal that should have been saved by Demitriov but he allowed the ball to go under his hands as he dived and Trowbridge were level. Almondsbury put Trowbridge under plenty of pressure with their direct approach and the long throws by Davidge that were as good as corners but the defence held firm until half time. Smith and Wilson both working hard to keep the score-line level.

Almondsbury took the lead just five minutes into the second half, another long throw into the area was dealt with but as the ball came back out Tony Bennett finished well from inside the penalty area. Trowbridge seemed to be giving possession away too easily and the Almondsbury players seemed to always get to the ball first as the visitors tried to get themselves back into the match. There were chances to equalise, Gordon Saunderson hit a fine shot in the 67th minute that Demitriov did well to save high to his right. Saunderson also saw a shot creep agonisingly wide of the post in the 74th minute, the opportunity being setup by substitute Matt Cooper. However, It was an Almondsbury substitute that made the game safe for the home side. Ryan Couzens with a good run and left foot finish a minute later. Saunderson went wide again with a fine overhead kick in the dying minutes but by then it was all over and the premier division side prevailed.

5th February 2005 2nd half comeback secures vital points

Trowbridge Town 3 Adderbury Park 2

Adderbury got themselves off to a flying start on a very sticky pitch when after just 3 minutes, Dean Baker headed home a corner to give the visitors a shock lead. Most of the home supporters didn’t seem too worried at the time; Adderbury lie near the foot of the table and it was very early yet. As time ticked by in the first half Trowbridge just couldn’t find their form with passes going astray and very little entertaining football on show.  Luke Smith had an effort cleared of the line after 20 minutes but aside from that, chances were few and far between. Adderbury were not much better but with the goal behind them, they grew in confidence and grabbed a second goal on the half hour. Barker was the scorer again, this time picking up the rebound after a corner was headed against the crossbar. The best thing for the shocked home supporters to cheer about was probably the half time whistle.

The second half was a completely different affair. Trowbridge attacked from the restart and a good cross from the right by Dave Percival was headed home by Dave Mitchell at the back post. Mitchell went close again shortly afterwards when his shot was blocked and the players and the home crowd sensed that a comeback was on. Adderbury nearly gifted Trowbridge an equaliser in the 55th minute. James Collier completely missed his kick, allowing a harmless back pass to creep past the post for a corner. Trowbridge continued to attack and deservedly equalised after 69 minutes. Dave Mitchell scoring with another fine header, this time on the end of an Adam Nunn free kick. Three minutes later, defender Steve Bryant scored the winner, powerfully heading home a corner to claim the points.

15th January 2005 Successful start to Wilts Senior Cup Campaign

Amesbury Town 0 Trowbridge Town 1

Trowbridge successfully started their defence of the Wiltshire Senior Cup by winning their first ever visit to Amesbury. The standard of football by both sides was excellent despite a quagmire of a pitch with Trowbridge bossing the tie throughout. The Trowbridge defence was boosted by the return of an old club favourite, Paul Thorpe who had a fine game ably supported by Luke Smith and Lee Wilson, both performing superbly when called upon. Amesbury attacks were few and far between though as Trowbridge moved the ball swiftly from midfield to attack. Andy Bloodworth nearly gave Trowbridge the lead in the 14th minute but Andy Jackson, the Amesbury goalkeeper, blocked his shot. Bloodworth was through again 3 minutes later but a last ditch tackle prevented a shot at goal. Waleed Bakali, who was involved in setting up Bloodworth earlier, nearly went one better himself with a 25-yard effort in the 23rd minute that struck the crossbar. In the 34th minute a great ball in from Bloodworth was headed towards goal by Dave Percival but Jackson saved brilliantly to give away a corner. The best chance for Amesbury came in the 39th minute with a header that went just wide.

In the second half, Amesbury were limited to the odd counter–attack as Trowbridge continued to create chances. A great drive by Gordon Saunderson was saved again by Jackson in the 67th minute. With 6 minutes remaining man of the match Jackson made another fine save pushing a Dave Percival shot for a corner. The winning goal came from the resultant corner and involved two 2nd half substitutes. Gavin Eyre meeting Adam Nunn’s corner with a header at the near post that scraped the underside of the crossbar on it’s way into the net. Trowbridge now meet Devizes Town away from home in the Quarter Finals.

A happy return for Town favourite, Paul Thorpe è

8th January 2005 Disappointing Trowbridge Slump to away defeat.

Purton FC 1 Trowbridge Town 0

Trowbridge stumbled to a disappointing defeat at Purton. They started well enough and controlled the first 20 minutes but with Matt Cooper absent due to a County call up and one or two players far from full fitness, they were unable to maintain their usual standards for 90 minutes. Waleed Bakali went close after 6 minutes with a good effort that went just over the bar. A fine run by Dave Percival 2 minutes later almost created an opportunity but his final pass across the front of goal was intercepted. Purton were awarded a penalty against the run of play after 20 minutes following a clumsy tackle by Luke Smith but Simon Pugh blazed the ball over the bar. Despite the penalty miss, this opportunity gave Purton some hope and with the wind at their backs they played with a little more belief. They created two chances before the break. Adam Sheppard first saving with his feet after 37 minutes and three minutes later he was in action again, turning a free kick over the bar. Trowbridge attacked at the start of the second half but were caught on the break in the 53rd minute. A throw-in on the left wing followed by an accurate cross was headed powerfully home by Simon Pugh to give Purton the lead. Trowbridge went looking for a equaliser but all too often the final ball was not accurate or the Purton defence managed to make tackles at vital times. Booker Woodford turned on a sixpence to fire a great shot at goal in the 66th minute but it went straight into the arms of Ben Collier, the Purton 'keeper. Gavin Eyre also went close when unmarked in the 73rd minute but his header beat the crossbar as well as Collier. Trowbridge were poor by their own standards but Purton should be credited for their defensive performance..

3rd January 2005 Trowbridge Take New Year Honours

Trowbridge Town 3 Tytherington Rocks 1

Trowbridge took the New Year Honours in this "match of the day". They created enough chances in the first half to win comfortably but Tytherington made Trowbridge work hard in the second. The first goal came after just six minutes. An Adam Nunn cross from the left reached Gavin Eyre on the other wing and his pin-point cross was headed home beautifully by Matt Cooper from the edge of the six yard box. Trowbridge piled on the pressure, Bakali shot just wide on 12 minutes and Cooper just failed to set up Percival in the 25th minute when his pass across the front of goal was too heavy. In the 26th minute, Andy Bloodworth nearly made it two but his shot was deflected wide, (see picture above). In the 28th minute, Gavin Eyre was denied by a goal line clearance and a minute later the same player scooped a chance over the bar following a good cross from Percival. Tytherington had only previously threatened the Trowbridge goal once with a free kick early on and it was from a similar position that they drew level. Twain Plummer with a comfortable header at the back post giving Craig Guthrie no chance. Just before half time, Trowbridge were back in the lead. Gavin Eyre again the provider with a great cross from the left that Dave Percival met with a powerful header that scraped the underside of the crossbar on it's way into the net.

The second half started in a similar vein, Waleed Bakali nearly making it three in the 54th minute with a fine shot from outside the area that struck a post. A minute later Dave Percival saw a fine shot saved by Rob Dent the Tytherington goalkeeper. Having ridden their luck, the visitors started to hit Trowbridge on the break and all early chances that hadn't been converted started to count for nothing. In the 59th minute Tytherington had a goal disallowed for offside and in the 68th minute a free kick hit the Trowbridge wall and Gary Cripps shot just wide.

Although Trowbridge always looked the better side and the more likely to score towards the end there was always a chance that Tytherington would break away and grab a point. One chance dipped just over the bar as a nervous bank holiday crowd looked on, Trowbridge nearly grabbed a third when Andy Bloodworth put Adam Nunn through and he set up Percival but his shot went just wide. With time running out, Rob Dent went up for a Tytherington corner and when the ball was cleared, top scorer Dave Percival ran on to coolly slot the ball into an empty net and make the game safe. Trowbridge claimed a deserved three points and both sides provided fine entertainment for a good crowd of 238.

22nd December 2004 Town reach semi in penalty shoot-out

Trowbridge Town 2 Fairford Town 2 (won 5-3 on penalties)
(I borrowed this one from "This is Wiltshire" - I think they owe me one for Christmas - :))

HELLENIC LEAGUE: GOALKEEPER Adam Sheppard has vowed to stay and fight for his place at Woodmarsh after his heroics helped Trowbridge into the semi final of the Floodlight Cup on Wednesday night. In a repeat of last season's match winning display against Corsham Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final, Sheppard was again the hero after a dramatic penalty shoot-out. The stopper, who has become the subject of a seven days' notice of approach from Melksham Town, produced a string of stunning saves during the 120 minutes and then, after saving Fairford's first penalty, stepped up to fire the winning kick into the top corner. Since injuring his groin two months ago, Sheppard has lost his number one spot to former Melksham goalkeeper Craig Guthrie and was only given a start at Westbury's Meadow Lane on Wednesday to give him a chance to regain full fitness. He grabbed the chance with both hands and has given manager Neil Kirkpatrick a big selection dilemma, but Sheppard insists whatever happens he is going nowhere. He said: "I love it at Trowbridge and there is no way I am going to leave the club. Why would I want to leave, we are flying at the moment? "Craig Guthrie has done very well since I have been out and I know I face a tough battle to regain the number one shirt but I will work hard to try and do that. The lads were giving me a bit of stick about my extra weight since I have been injured but in the end I showed them I can still do it. The belly won it for them." Despite Fairford being one of the form sides in the Hellenic Premier division, a division above Trowbridge, it was the Bees who started brighter and they got their reward on 15 minutes. The ball fell to young striker Matt Cooper and after a good first touch he sent a swerving right footed shot past goalkeeper James Price from 25 yards for the opener. Five minutes later Fairford were level as Kevin Coles turned well in the box and Ryan Lovegrove converted his cross from eight yards. On the stroke of half-time, Fairford took the lead when Phil Ward fired the ball into the net after Sheppard had parried Neil Matthews' initial header. After the break, Trowbridge piled forward in search of the equaliser and on 59 minutes Waleed Bakali cut in from the left wing to send a fierce low strike past Price to level. Cooper was a constant threat to the tiring Fairford defence and did enough to suggest Trowbridge could have another gem on their hands and he shot narrowly wide with 15 minutes remaining. Sheppard then came to Trowbridge's rescue by deflecting Coles' low shot over the bar when the striker was through clear on goal. He then produced another point blank save with three minutes remaining from Lee Clark's effort and in injury time he dived low to his left to tip Lee Stoddart's strike wide.Trowbridge were hanging on during extra-time and had to rely on some inspired defending by Gordon Saunderson and more good keeping from Sheppard to force the shoot out. The keeper then brilliantly saved Stoddart's penalty with his legs and, after Ricky Trott, Luke Smith, Dave Percival, and Booker Woodford converted their kicks, Sheppard rifled the decisive penalty into the net. A delighted Kirkpatrick admitted he did not have a clue what he was going to do about his goalkeeping problem. He said: "It is a very nice problem to have but what do I do? Craig has been great for us but Shep has shown how good he is as well. "The lads were superb tonight as they kept going in a match that I thought could have gone either way." Trowbridge now face Almondsbury in a two-leg semi final.

18th December 2004 Poor first half costs town a place in the last eight

Badshot Lea 3 Trowbridge Town 2

A game of two halves was certainly relevant in this East v West cup-tie. In the first half, Trowbridge failed to find any of the form that has taken them to the top of the Western Section of the league and in form Badshot took advantage of this. They dominated throughout and Trowbridge failed to create a goal scoring opportunity. There was a chance in the first minute, Badshots’ top scorer Bradley Smith heading towards goal and Craig Guthrie saving well. Badshot piled on the pressure and a completely unmarked Smith opened the scoring in the 19th minute heading home a free kick at the back post. Trowbridge failed to learn from their mistake, Smith headed another chance wide after 22 minutes but then made no mistake, again unmarked to make it 2-0 in the 37th.

The half time break gave Neil Kirkpatrick a chance to try to repair the damage and his team showed great character in the second half. Attacking from the off, Steve Bryant pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute. An Adam Nunn corner attacked the near post and Mark Shaw failed to take the ball low enabling Bryant to force the ball home from close range. Two minutes later a good move on the right saw Dave Percival pass to Matt Cooper and Gavin Eyre just failed to get enough on Coopers’ cross to claim the equaliser. In the 67th minute Cooper latched onto a long clearance from Craig Guthrie and struck a fine shot from the edge of the area that beat Shaw but a defender headed the ball off the line. The ball went back to Cooper and his bullet header from just inside the penalty area flew into the top corner and Trowbridge were level. Badshot went back into the lead seven minutes later. Darren Blake gaining possession and striking a good low shot that Guthrie tried to push wide but the ball crept just inside the post. Trowbridge went looking for an equaliser in an exciting finish. With five minutes remaining, Gavin Eyre created a chance for Adam Nunn to lift the ball over Shaw but the effort went agonisingly wide and Badshot were through to the last eight of the competition.

11th December 2004 Sars take the points in close encounter

Cheltenham Saracens 1 Trowbridge Town 0

Trowbridge returned from Gloucestershire with nothing for their efforts in a very close match that could have gone either way.  Saracens started well and the Trowbridge defence had to be alert in the early stages to deny the home forwards any shots on target. The first chance though, came at the other end. In the 14th minute, Gavin Eyre swung a corner across goal and Luke Smith at the back post would have scored but for an excellent point blank save by Betteridge, the Saracens goal-keeper.  Five minutes later Matt Cooper turned a defender well to set up a chance for Adam Nunn but this time Betteridge saved comfortably. Both sides attacked but in many cases the final ball just failed and the defences were able to clear.

Just before the half hour mark, Saracens very nearly broke the deadlock. A nice through pass to the right side of the penalty area created a chance for Macey but his shot crashed against the underside of the crossbar with Craig Guthrie beaten and Steve Bryant was able to clear. The score line remained goalless at half time but could just as easily have been 1-1. Saracens started well in the second half and earned themselves a free kick just outside the penalty area. The subsequent shot was well saved by Guthrie, pushing the ball over for a corner. Six minutes later Guthrie was called into action again with a dive to his left to push the ball round the post for another corner. Trowbridge attacked well on both wings but couldn’t seem to find a way through. The final pass either went astray or a timely tackle would cause the move to break down. Saracens defender Tovey had a fine game at left back and on the occasions when Trowbridge did get the ball into the area, Betteridge confidently took any loose balls. The winning goal came 10 minutes from time. Steve Bryant tried to head away the ball away as it came through the centre but it fell for Saracens substitute Ross Constantine and he made no mistake with a looping shot, which gave Guthrie no chance. Overall the Cheltenham side just had the edge on the day and held on for 3 hard earned points.

4th December 2004 Vital win keep Town at the top

Trowbridge Town 1 Harrow Hill 0

Harrow Hill proved to be tough visitors but Trowbridge came through to retain their top spot in the league table. Early on, Dave Mitchell tried a very difficult overhead kick that went straight to Ricky Beckett, the Harrow goalkeeper. Harrow then spurned a golden opportunity to take the lead after 10 minutes. Craig Guthrie made a fine save diving to his left and Waleed Bakali fouled and incoming Harrow forward to concede a penalty. Guthrie made a fine stop with a dive to his right to keep the score-line goalless.

The game then seemed to become over physical, which spoiled some of the good football that both sides were capable of playing. Trowbridge though, looked the more likely to break the deadlock. Dave Percival put in a good cross from the left on 16 minutes but Beckett punched the ball away before Gavin Eyre could get to the ball. Five minutes before the break. Dave Mitchell, who seemed to be involved in everything, was fouled and this time is was Trowbridge who spurned an opportunity. Dave Percival’s spot kick saw Beckett repeat Guthries’ earlier heroics by diving to his left and keeping the game goalless.

Fortunately, both sides put aside their differences in the second half and produced a nail biting second half with some good play from both sides. Five minutes into the second half, Bakali threaded a pass out to Ricky Trott on the left wing and Trott took the ball on nicely down the line then crossed for Dave Mitchell to score from close range. Harrow immediately tried to fight back and Trowbridge had to defend strongly. Luke Smith in particular putting in a superb performance with some timely tackles and interceptions. In the 59th minute, Harrow thought they had equalised but the goal was ruled out for offside and Trowbridge survived. Shortly afterwards, Steve Bryant cleared off the line for the home side and there were many nervous home spectators as the game approached the last 15 minutes. Trowbridge settled again though and created a few more chances. Adam Nunn had a volley deflected for a corner and Bakali shot just wide with about 8 minutes remaining. Harrow also had one opportunity that went over the bar in the latter stages but they also lost Paul Frowen who was the unfortunate last man as he stopped Adam Nunn going through on goal.

27th November 2004 League Cup Victory

Trowbridge Town 3 Clanfield FC 1

Having won 5-0 at Clanfield in a league match earlier in the season, Trowbridge were expecting to progress through to the next round of the league cup. Clanfield however, performed much better than their league form suggested and with Trowbridge not at their best the story may well have been different. In the early stages, Clanfield forced a free kick that Craig Guthrie had to tip over the bar and they continued to pressure Trowbridge until the 10th minute. Dave Percival claimed possession and shot over the bar as Martin Whawell, the Clanfield ‘keeper advanced. Clanfield hit back in the 14 minute, Richard Hill being denied by the well placed Lee Wilson who seemed to have the knack of being in the right place at the right time throughout the encounter. Trowbridge then started to create a few chances; Waleed Bakali curling a shot wide after 14 minutes. It was the experience of Dave Mitchell that broke the deadlock after 21 minutes. Adam Nunn swung a free kick round the back of the Clanfield defence and Mitchell pounced on it to guide the ball past Whawell. Trowbridge settled now and Nunn & Ricky Trott both had chances to increase the lead before Bakali spun on a sixpence to rifle home a low shot into the corner in the 43rd minute and make it 2-0 at half-time. Clanfield refused to lie down and deservedly pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute. Alan Stratford scoring with a low shot from inside the penalty area. Mitchell nearly made it three for Trowbridge two minutes later with a fine lob that grazed the top of the crossbar. Clanfield pushed forward, looking for an equaliser and this gave the Trowbridge midfield and forwards more space in which to counter attack and as a result they always looked likely to add to their score as the match neared its conclusion. Adam Nunn went close with a great individual run in the 71st minute and only a fine save by Whawell denied Adam Smith from scoring in his return match in the 85th minute. The final goal that settled any nerves in the crowd was scored with a couple of minutes remaining. Matt Cooper robbed a couple of Clanfield defenders of possession and slotted the ball nicely past Whawell. Trowbridge were nowhere near their best in this cup-tie but safely progressed nevertheless.

20th November 2004 Honours Even at Shrivvy

Shrivenham FC 1 Trowbridge Town 1

Despite the rain and sleet, two of the best teams in the League produced excellent entertainment for the supporters. The first chance fell to Michael Barnes after just five minutes but he shot wide of the left post. Trowbridge continued to attack and Waleed Bakali volleyed over the bar after 14 minutes. Both sides looked dangerous going forward and Steve Winchcombe hit a good shot on target for Shrivenham after 24 minuites but Craig Guthrie was equal to it and saved comfortably. Trowbridge then created a couple of good chances. Dave Percival shot wide after 29 minutes and the same player saw his low cross-spilled by Luke Alford, the Shrivenham ‘keeper, but none of the Trowbridge forwards were close enough to follow up. Shrivenham nearly took the lead after 35 minutes. Winchcome just failing to control a cross from the right and the ball went just wide from close range. Dave Mitchell went close with a great turn and Percival had a shot deflected against the post before an exciting but goal-less first half drew to a close. The second half was equally entertaining with Trowbridge looking the more likely side to score first and Shrivenham looking dangerous on the break. The deadlock was broken with 20 minutes remaining. A brilliant run by Dave Percival down the left wing followed by a pin point cross which was met by an unstoppable header from Gavin Eyre. Shrivenham responded immediately and put pressure on the Trowbridge defence. Crag Guthrie failed to deal with a cross in the 80th minute but Gavin Eyre saved for Trowbridge with a goal-line clearance. Just when it looked as if the visitors would hold on, Dave Mitchell committed a foul on the left wing and a header by Mark Stevens from the resultant free kick looped over everyone and into the net with five minutes remaining.

17th November 2004 Trowbridge reach quarter finals

Trowbridge Town 1 Shortwood United 1 (Trowbridge won 6-5 on pens)

Trowbridge moved into the Quarter Final of the floodlit cup, repeating their earlier success by removing a premier division side on penalties. The opening minutes saw Trowbridge pile on the pressure. The first opportunity fell to Dave Percival but his shot was saved when the goalkeeper stretched above his head to catch the ball. The Shortwood keeper was in good form as he denied both Dave Mitchell and Waleed Bakali to concede two corners still within the first 15 minutes. One of these corners was headed off the line. Trowbridge were almost made to pay for not taking their chances as the first half wore on. In the 27th minute Gary Marshall skied his shot over the bar for Shortwood. Four minutes before half time, Adam Nunn ran onto a ball a Dave Percival through ball and hit a fierce shot that when straight into the chest of the Shortwood goalkeeper and he held on well. Just before the break, it looked as if Shortwood had taken the lead. A well-worked move down the right produced a good cross that was put into the net by Mike Lees. However, the assistant referee adjudged that a hand had been used and the goal was disallowed.  Trowbridge started well again in the second half, Rick Trott with a chance in the 56th minute. Gavin Eyre also had a shot saved by on the hour. Seven minutes later Dave Percival sprung the offside trap and ran through to give Trowbridge the lead with a good low finish past the goalkeeper. Shortly after the goal both teams went down to ten men. Dave Mitchell for Trowbridge & Craig Roberts for Shortwood were both unfortunate to be dismissed for violent conduct. This incident upset the Trowbridge flow and Shortwood looked dangerous as they looked for the equaliser, which came after 77 minutes. John Dalton with a finish from close range when the ball was played in from the left. Both teams had chances to score the final minutes but it was not to be. Neither side could break the deadlock during extra time so the lottery of penalties had to be the decider. The Shortwood goalkeeper who was man of the match in normal play continued his form by saving the first spot kick taken by Adam Nunn. However, Dalton put his kick over the bar and the normal compliment of penalties ended 4-4. Into sudden death it went to 5-5, Gordon Saunderson then powered his penalty into the roof of the net to make it 6-5 to Trowbridge. Craig Guthrie was feeling a bit rough having been caught in the face during the match but it didn’t stop him making a fine save to win the match for Trowbridge. He dived to his left and pushed out Dan Price’s kick to set up a quarterfinal tie with Fairford Town.

13th November 2004 Win takes Town to the top

Trowbridge Town 4 Cirencester United 0

Cirencester attacked at the beginning of the first half but soon found that they needed to defend as the Trowbridge midfield and forwards piled on the pressure. Dave Percival shot wide as early as the fifth minute but it was Adam Nunn that opened the scoring after nine. A superb solo run took him past a crowd of players and as the goalkeeper advanced he confidently slotted the ball home. Six minutes later Andy Bloodworth was on the end of a Percival cross and tucked the ball in at the near post from close range. Trowbridge continued to dominate, Waleed Bakali being just beaten to the ball in the 26th minute when it looked as if he was going to head into an empty net. The best chance for Cirencester came after 33 minutes. A fine free kick by Ian McSherry that went just over the bar. Bakali shot straight at the ‘keeper in the 36th minute but did better just before half time. Ricky Trott headed a free kick across goal and he was there to head home and produce a 3-0 half time score-line. With the game effectively won, the second half produced less excitement but Trowbridge dominated throughout. Matt Cooper went close in the 65th minute and Gavin Eyre headed home an Adam Nunn free kick after 74 minutes to wrap up the scoring in a very convincing victory. Once again the Trowbridge defence performed well when called upon but they were not really tested in a match that saw Trowbridge go top of the league due to the fact that Kidlington lost at home to Quarry Nomads.

6th November 2004 Good away win for Town

Easington Sports 1 Trowbridge Town 3

This match was fairly even until the unfortunate Steve Norman headed a Michael Barnes cross into his own net to give Trowbridge the lead with 13 minutes gone. This boost led to a spell of Trowbridge pressure and an Adam Nunn free kick that went just over the bar when Dave Percival was floored. The real damage came after 20 minutes with two quick goals in succession. Michael Barnes curled a lovely shot into the top right corner of the net and a minute later, Matt Cooper robbed a defender of possession and slotted the ball home to make it 3-0. Trowbridge continued to have the upper hand for a while, Dave Percival shooting wide after 29 minutes. Easington then started to play some good football and created some good chances before the half time break. Just after the half an hour mark, Steve Worthington shot just wide of the left post and Steve Norman nearly made up for his earlier mistake with a chance that went just over the crossbar following a corner taken by Gareth Source. Trowbridge then had Craig Guthrie to thank for keeping a clean sheet at half time; making two point blank saves from Steve Worthington. Michael Barnes picked up an injury in a tough but fair tackle just before halftime and was replaced by Martin Little at the restart. Easington continued to fight back in the second half, Joel Bloxham shooting over the bar after 58 minutes and another great save by Guthrie, tipping a shot from Worthington just over the bar on the hour. The best chance for Trowbridge in the second half fell to Dave Percival. Having sprung the offside trap he saw his shot rebound from the crossbar. There was no doubt that Easington were the better side in the second half but there were fine performances in defence, particularly Lee Wilson & Luke Smith that almost ensured a clean sheet until Shaun Lambourne grabbed a deserved consolation in injury time.

30th October 2004 Town progress in League Cup

Trowbridge Town 3 Winterbourne United 2

Trowbridge progressed in the Hellenic League cup despite a late comeback from Winterbourne. Adam Nunn nearly gave Trowbridge an early lead after 3 minutes hitting the post with a low drive from just outside the penalty area. Both sides cancelled each other for a while until the 24th minute when a great solo run and shot from Dave Percival was thwarted by a fine save from Tom Sheppard, the Winterbourne goalkeeper. Five minutes later Sheppard made an even better save from a terrific shot by Adam Nunn having been set up by Andy Bloodworth.

Just before that Winterbourne had had their best chance of the first half when Simon Mansfield got his head to a cross, which went wide with Craig Guthrie beaten.  Although Winterbourne played their part, Trowbridge looked the more likely to score and grabbed the lead just before the break. A Dave Percival cross sailed over everyone and crept into the far corner of the net.

In the second half, Winterbourne pushed forward looking for an equaliser and forced a few corners but the Trowbridge defence prevented any direct shots at goal. This allowed Trowbridge to exploit the space left at the back and they nearly added to their lead in the 69th minute. Michael Barnes scraping the top of the crossbar with a scorcher of a half volley that was hit on the turn. The second goal came in the 75th minute. Dave Percival springing the offside trap to run through and score with a shot across goal that just crossed the line before Dave Mitchell followed up to make sure.

Trowbridge then went close twice before Andy Bloodworth made it three. His first shot was saved but he made no mistake with the rebound. Winterbourne refused to lie down and hit back with two late goals. Mark Nash with a good shot from just inside the area and James Mainstone with a finish from close range. Deep into injury time, Winterbourne forced a corner but the Trowbridge defence cleared and justly deserved their passage through to the next round when they will be at home to Clanfield.

23rd October 2004 Trowbridge Shine Despite The Rain

Harrow Hill 2 Trowbridge Town 4

Trowbridge put on a superb show to entertain a brave crowd that made the trip in the wind and rain to the Forest of Dean. Having made the decision for the game to go ahead the referee must have been pleased that both teams produced an entertaining, sporting encounter and he himself was superb throughout. The first chance went to Harrow, Edward Weyman just knocking the ball too far, allowing Adam Sheppard to come out and gather the ball at his feet. After that, Trowbridge settled down and started to move the ball about well. A good one-two with Dave Percival allowed Adam Nunn to shoot straight at the goalkeeper in the 10th minute. A minute later Gavin Eyre controlled the ball well on the right and hit the target but the ‘keeper claimed the ball under pressure from two incoming Trowbridge forwards. The first goal came after 13 minutes. Adam Nunn floated a free kick in from the right and Ricky Trott controlled the ball well and scored from close range. Gavin Eyre then showed his defensive qualities on two occasions, chasing back to rob Harrow Hill forwards of possession. Any other attacks being dealt with comfortably by Luke Smith, Daniel Barnes & Michael Greaves. In the 28th minute Dave Percival nearly made it two but for a good save by the goalkeeper. Adam Sheppard having to be equally alert a minute later to deny Eddie Wayman for Harrow. However, despite diving the right way, Sheppard could not prevent Richard Workman from equalising with a fine free kick after 36 minutes. Before half time, Weyman shot over the bar for Harrow and a long shot from Adam Nunn, was easily dealt with by Ricky Beckett, the Harrow goalkeeper. There was no doubt about the best team in the second half. Trowbridge moved the ball about confidently despite the conditions. Andy Bloodworth & Michael Barnes both feeding the ball out well to the wings to set up attack after attack.  Percival hit a fine volley just wide in the 48th minute but he became provider in the 53rd minute, beating one player by the goal-line and picking out Ricky Trott with a cross, to head home. A minute later Matt Cooper made it 3-1 with a nice flick past Beckett from a Michel Barnes cross.  Dave Percival should have made it four on the hour but his shot was a bit weak and Beckett saved well. Trowbridge continued to dominate but were caught on the break in the 90th minute when Shaun Bucklan robbed Greaves of possession on the edge of the penalty area and scored with a good shot that gave Sheppard no chance. Dave Percival restored the deserved 2 goal advantage in injury time with a shot from just inside the area that Beckett got a hand to but he couldn’t prevent the ball from going into the net. The points were now safe and everyone played their part in a great performance.

16th October 2004 Purton Thrashed

Trowbridge Town 6 Purton FC 0

The corner that led to the fourth goal, scored by Matt Cooper.

After losing their undefeated away record last week, Trowbridge showed that they possessed bouncebackability with a convincing home win at Purton’s expense. Captain, Ricky Trott returned in midfield and Michael Greaves made a promising first team debut at the back. Trowbridge went in front with only 4 minutes on the clock. Jack Heard slotting the ball home having run onto a Gavin Eyre through ball. An even better move nearly produced a goal on 9 minutes.  Jack Heard back healed the ball into the path of Adam Nunn but Purton managed to clear. The visitors then had their best spell of the match as they forced a couple of corners and free kicks. Simon Pugh was in on goal just after the half-hour mark and would have shot at goal but for a well timed tackle by Michael Greaves. In the 38th minute Purton found themselves down to ten men following a sending off and Trowbridge took control. Jack Heard touched the ball to Dave Percival just inside the Purton half and the leagues’ leading goal scorer raced through to make it 2-0 with 39 minutes gone. Just before half time, Percival struck again running onto a ball, which bounced up nicely for him to head over the line just in front of the goalkeeper. The second half was mostly one-way traffic as Purton pushed up looking for goals allowing Trowbridge to use their pace up front. Adam Nunn shot straight at the ‘keeper on 53 minutes and 12 minutes later a corner taken by Gavin Eyre dropped between a crowd of players where Matt Cooper was on hand to score from close range. In the 76th minute, Martin Little made it five, heading home a cross form Adam Nunn. Dave Percival wrapped up the scoring, completing his hat trick with 11 minutes of the match remaining. A typically confident finish from just inside the area having run onto another good through ball from midfield

9th October 2004 Away record falls at Ross

Ross Town 3 Trowbridge Town 2

Trowbridge suffered their first away defeat of the season when they made their first ever trip to Herefordshire. It was always likely to be a difficult match and with a few regulars missing such as Captain Ricky Trott and defender Daniel Barnes the task was made that much harder.  The windy conditions made good football difficult to play but both teams tried their best to do so. The home side having the better of the first half with the wind at their backs and Lee Wilson found himself very busy trying to get that ball away with long clearances.

The first shot at goal came after 10 minutes, Adam Sheppard comfortably taking a shot that came straight towards him. Trowbridge found it hard to retain possession but did create a chance in the 16th minute. A shot from Dave Percival was saved by Richard Newman and Waleed Bakali followed up to shoot just wide. Gavin Eyre also shot wide in the 27th minute but towards the end of the first half Ross looked the more likely to score and on the half hour top scorer David Skipp went close with a shot wide of goal. The same player did better after 33 minutes, giving Ross the lead with a well taken shot across goal when he ran onto a through ball from Andrew Green.

Straight after the restart Skipp made it 2-0 with a brilliant individual run and shot from just inside the penalty area. Trowbridge tried to get back into the match and manager Neil Kirkpatirck made a couple of changes. He brought himself on as a substitute for Matt Cooper and Trowbridge earned a corner on the hour. Gavin Eyre floated the ball in from the corner and before the ball even reached the area, the Referee spotted an infringement and pointed to the penalty spot. Dave Percival drove the penalty home in style and suddenly the thoughts of a point looked realistic.

Five minutes later the score was nearly levelled when Kirkpatrick headed a free kick across goal and the goalkeeper made a point blank save from the incoming Percival.  However, three minutes later Trowbridge were level. A 25-yard strike from Dave Percival flew into the top corner with just the slightest of deflections from Kirkpatricks back. Any claims from the Manager however were quickly dismissed by the rest of the players! Ross responded well and always looked dangerous on the attack, finally claiming the points in the 77th minute. Ryan Parker finding some unmarked space in front of goal when a low cross came in from the left wing. Trowbridge forced a couple of corners in the last minute of the match but the Ross goalkeeper Richard Newman who looked very competent, dealt with one and a defender headed away the other. Trowbridge also added to their injury problems when substitute Matt Brown had to leave the field with a broken ankle.

2nd October 2004 Trowbridge win despite Quarry comeback

Trowbridge Town 4 Quarry Nomads 2

Trowbridge made the perfect start after just 3 minutes, Matt Cooper sliding home his first goal for the club from a Dave Percival pass. They had already gone close twice in the first minute with chances from Adam Nunn and Dave Percival. Michael Barnes should really have made it two following a good move in the 12th minute. Percival received a pass from Cooper and his pass sat up invitingly for Barnes to hit first time but he chose to try and control the ball first and the chance went away.  The first chance for Quarry came after 21 minutes. Justin Ford with a shot over the bar that perhaps should have been on target. Adam Nunn very nearly scored for Trowbridge in the 25th minute. A poor clearance by goalkeeper Aaron Armstrong gave away possession and which allowed Adam Nunn to shoot towards goal but Armstrong made amends for his error with a fine save to push the ball away for a corner. Dave Percival then showed why he is the League’s leading scorer with a brilliant solo run and finish to make it 2-0 with 29 minutes gone. Quarry attacked towards the end of the first half and the pressure nearly paid off in the 43rd minute when Trowbridge couldn’t get the ball clear and a shot eventually went over the crossbar. The second half started just like the first with an early goal. Percival beat a defender on the left and cut the ball back to Adam Nunn who scored with a good low shot into the corner to make it 3-0. Seven minutes later Nunn was brought down in the area and Percival smashed home the penalty make it 4-0. Manager Neil Kirkpatick saw this as an opportunity to make some changes and Trowbridge lost their way for a while as a now more physical Quarry pushed forward to try to claw back the deficit. They got their reward after 62 minutes. Adam Sheppard could only push a good shot by Colin Ryan into the net and 12 minutes later David Jennings pulled back another with a good shot across goal to make it 4-2. Having been stunned by this comeback Trowbridge attacked towards the end with Adam Nunn shooting just over following a Dave Percival cross.

25th September 2004 Away form continues

Clanfield FC 0 Trowbridge Town 5
