5th July 2008 - John Fitchen "Retires" as Chairman.
Welcome to the members of our senior Club for our final meeting prior to
the inaugural General Meeting which will bring Trowbridge Town Youth FC
and our senior club together as one club, which of course needs your
approval tonight.
There is no doubt that both clubs have benefited from our current
partnership agreement which was formed in 1998. We have invested up to
£30,000 in facilities at Woodmarsh and continued to pay a fair rent. It
has also been an advantage for the youth with the opportunity to make
progress and assist our first team with players of which some moved on
to a higher level.
As I have not previously been involved with the firming up of the
constitution during the last 3 months I will ask Roy While who together
with Chris Bowyer have represented our club to outline the details and
answer any questions you may have.
Since the formation on our club I have had the privilidge of being your
chairman, I am now in my tenth year. It is fair to say that we have had
more ups than downs which made my job much easier particularly with such
a supportive and hard working committee, all of whom give their time
freely with no cost to our club. Also with additional help from
supporters, too many for me to mention tonight.
I trust that all of you with continue and hopefully more help will be
available next season. Without your support our club would not function.
Once again many thanks.
Financially we have been prudent and kept our head above water with the
help of a well organised fund raising team. On this subject one must not
forget the generosity of the late Dudley Cradock who donated 40k to our
club. Dudley was not only a long time supporter but was also Chairman of
the Wilts FA and has been sadly missed. I am sure that if he was still
with us today we would have been able to ground-share with Westbury
United which would have given us an opportunity within the next 2 years
to make further progress.
Unfortunately the Wilts FA were not the least bit interested.
The future of the Senior side is very much dependent on moving to a new
ground with the facilities that will enable the County Town team to make
further progress up the football pyramid. We have been denied promotion
in 2005 and 2007 and are unable to make further progress at Woodmarsh.
I have no idea as to the situation regarding Mr Stuart Brown’s plans for
a new ground which was agreed in principal in 2005. If Mr Brown is with
us tonight perhaps he would be good enough to clarify the situation. I
trust that our merger with Trowbridge Town Youth will increase our
acquiring a new ground which is essential for our club’s prospects of
gaining promotion to a higher level.
I have decided to stand down from an official position with no real
prospects for at least 2 years of our club making further progress. At
my time of life I feel that rather than just stand still I should step
down and allow a younger person to lead the way forward.
I shall of course still support TTFC which has been one of the loves of
my life.
Thank you members and supporters, you have not seen the last of me yet.
John Fitchen

PLEASE NOTE There will be a pre meeting at 7.15 p.m. to finalise the
‘old ‘ club with a final speech from outgoing Chairman John Fitchen.
Contributions for his presentation welcome. Copies of the accounts for
the year will be circulated at the meeting.
A brief outline of arrangements for the new season.
Three teams headed by our new Head Coach PAUL KING. He needs no
introduction having operated successfully at Youth level for many years.
Tough on discipline, he is keen and raring to go. The senior team
continues to play in the League Division One West. We shall be playing
four teams new to the Division and meeting up again with Lydney Town.
The playing squad is yet to be finalised but Paul only wants players who
want to play for Trowbridge and are willing to identify with supporters.
Paul is supported by Lee Hayward/Mike Little/Andy Bonser(1st
team), Chris Carr/Ade Hiscocks(Reserves) and David Burrows(also club
goalkeeping coach)/Sean Daniels(Youth team).
We must put the events of the last months behind us and we need YOUR
continued support to keep senior football alive in Trowbridge. The
merger will enable this to happen and encourage more younger supporters
to come along. As is customary we are enclosing the enrolment form. We
hope you will continue your membership. We also need NEW members. Future
newsletters will incorporate Youth/Senior activities. With increasing
postal and other costs we are increasing the membership to £8. We offer
a discounted rate of £5 to youngsters under 17. Andrew Meaden(now
matchday secretary and magazine editor)produces one of the best
programmes in the League and has won an award from the Toolstation for
Westbury’s programme. Reluctantly we have had to increase the cover
price to £1.50. This last season we were feeling the pinch financially
and we are having to look carefully at our budget particularly our
outgoings.
Season ticket holders – there were 58 of you last season will continue
to get a good deal. The cost of the inclusive ticket; including
membership, matchday magazine, admission to 1st team and reserve home
league games is £70. One visit to ‘Spurs would set you back £100 for
just one day! The ground season ticket is just £43 for 1st
team and reserve games. Instalment facilities are available. Match day
admission is £3 for Hellenic and £1.50 for reserve games. Youngsters
under 17 will be free. We continue the popular half time draw with the
backers continuing with the £30 prize. We depend on support for the
FRIENDS page in the programme – YOUR/relatives/colleagues name listed
for the season for just £10. We also continue with the match ball
sponsorship – again names listed in the programme plus two complimentary
tickets and tea and cake at half time. All for £25 a time. Snapped up
quickly last year. Ian Robinson has already booked the first match of
the season.
In addition we are offering players sponsorship for £25, your name
appearing against the player of your choice in the matchday magazine. Do
you know someone who would take an advert in the matchday magazine (£100
for a full page, £60 a half and £30 a quarter).
Chris Bowyer’s TT Club proved popular last season bringing in a
substantial sum and giving a monthly 1st prize of £100 with
£20 for the runner up. This is how it works – each TT Club member signs
up for 40 weeks at £1 a week. Quite a few make a one off payment of £40
for the season. Others pay Chris on monthly basis- 8 payments of £5.
Following the merger we hope to get MORE members so we could increase
the prizes. Interested?(Your chances of winning are better than either
the lottery or the Premium Bonds) If so please tick the box. If you wish
you can pay this with your membership. We are also asking for some of
your time! The Treasurer and Chris Bowyer could do with your help
particularly with fundraising. Chris who is also match day manager and
Eileen with the raffle are looking for help. The strength of this club
depends on volunteers. We need younger supporters to come and help so
how about it?
Thanks, I am looking forward to the return of the attached sheet.

18th June - A statement from Head Coach - Paul King
Firstly I would like to thank all the support I have received and the
good luck messages since I decided to take on the 1st team Manager’s
Job. For the people who don’t know me I have been involved in the club
for over 15 years coaching the Reserves, Third Team, Youth and Girls
Teams, so have a great inner knowledge of the potential in the club.
The most exciting news is the proposed merger of the Senior and Youth
clubs that has been a long time coming and now looks to be finalised on
July 4th.
It is hard to say what the season has in store for us, there will be
many departures following Shanks to Bradford and other players looking
for new challenges, which is a disappointment, but something that will
give opportunity to other players who have been on the verge.
As you can see pre-season has been sorted with 6 friendlies that will be
very challenging. Also exciting news is that a squad of senior players
will be travelling to Malta in May 2010 to play against 3 Maltese teams
along with the youth section of the club.
Training begins at Silver Street Lane on Tuesday at 6.30 pm; we are
hoping to see many players there and can then begin to properly prepare
for the season. I have had some good discussions with players but this
time of year nothing can be definite.
All I can promise from myself is that I will give 100% and hope that
people can be patient as obviously a massive rebuilding of the team will
take time, I can promise that we will try and play very attacking,
positive football.
There is lots of work happening at Woodmarsh this season hopefully
providing a better ground both for the players and supporters.
Finally I would like to thank the coaches who will be assisting me this
season, Lee Hayward, Andrew Bloodworth, Mike Little, Andy Bonser, Chris
Carr, Ade Hiscocks, David Burrows and Shaun Daniels, the later 4
concentrating on the reserves and 3rd team respectively. We
will be aiming to work closely together to bring a good unity amongst
the 3 teams, something that has always been successful in the past at
the club.
Also I will do my utmost to keep you up to date with any develops as the
season progresses.
Yours in football
Paul King
