21st May 2000 - Signed ball donated to the Museum
Roger Townsend who bought the signed Trowbridge Town Football for £50
has donated the ball to Trowbridge Town Museum. Roger presented the ball
to the Mayor recently. It is also likely that the Championship Trophy
could be on display at the museum too. Andrew Lye stated that In the
absence of a clubhouse to display it, this seems to be and option
although it must be stressed that the committee have yet to meet and
decide for certain.
18th April 2000 - News Item Courtesy of Cllr Andrew Lye
Following the decision to grant Trowbridge Town FC a place in the
Wiltshire League from next season, SUBJECT to a further inspection of
the pitch in July, Cllr Andrew Lye, who sits on the TTFC Management
Committee, sought an assurance at Trowbridge Town Council, that the
pitch will be ready by July.
At the meeting held on 11th April, Steve Nash, the Council's Sports &
Community Development Officer gave his assurance that the work will be
done and completed by July.
Trowbridge Town Football Club also hit the headlines of the Wiltshire
Times (14th April) due to a neighbour, Jan Williams, making various
allegations against the club that were refuted by Club Chairman, John
Fitchen. Her
complaints alleged that matters would worsen as a result of the success
of the club. Mrs Williams has been leafleting neighbours to the
pitch in Trowbridge and North Bradley, to gather evidence of alleged
problems. Mrs
Williams also took her complaints to Trowbridge Town & District
Councillor, Jeff Osborn. George Bright has written to Mrs Williams
to answer the points she raised in her 2 page letter.
In its editorial, the Wiltshire Times welcomed the success of the Club
for Trowbridge and was sorry that a minority were trying to spoil it for
the majority.
Andrew Lye said that the agreement made a year ago was that any
neighbour complaints should be referred directly to George Bright and
that does not seem to have been happening, but that the Club is always
willing to receive any comments, so that they can be followed up.

KIRKPATRICK SCORES A HAT-TRICK AS SUNDAY BEES STING PETER BLACK 4-2
Neil Kirkpatrick scored a hat-trick on his debut as Trowbridge Town
Supporters Club beat fellow strugglers Peter Black 4-2.
Kirky opened the scoring with a penalty after he was tripped in the box,
and the Bees made it 2-0 at half-time, Sean Colton latching on to a John
Green cross to finish well at the far post.
The Bees then took the foot off the gas allowing Peter Black to pull one
back before Kirky struck again latching on to a through ball to fire
wide of the keeper with his left foot. A mix-up in the defence saw Chris
Vaughan lose control of a back pass which was coolly finished to make it
3-2, but Kirky put the result beyond doubt with a stunning header to
complete his hat-trick. This was only the Supporters Club third win of
the season.
Our next home game will be at Woodmarsh, next Tuesday 18th when we play
North Star B from Calne, once again King Kirky will be playing. kick off
6.15pm.
22nd March 2000 - Trowbridge Town Council Gives It's Support To Improve
Woodmarsh Pitch
Trowbridge Town Council at its meeting on Tuesday 21st March 2000 has
agreed to works costing £6773.40 + VAT, to improve the main pitch, used
by Trowbridge Town Football Club (and Trowbridge Town Youth FC).
There have been numerous complaints about the surface that undulates in
places and on occasions, has been dangerous.
With the Wiltshire County League inspection of the site having taken
place, the main concern of the Club has been the state of the pitch
itself and it was imperative that the go ahead should be given, so that
the work can
commence as soon as possible, to level the pitch, in time for the new
season in the autumn.
Trowbridge Town Council has a 21 year lease on the Bradley Road Playing
Fields, which has another 19 years to run.
Both TTYFC and TTFC will be contributing towards the cost of the works
up to £3000, between the 2 organisations.
TTFC has just repaid the final £2896 owed to the Town Council for the
additional works done at Woodmarsh, last year. Money raised from
the Club's membership.
The case for going ahead with the works was proposed by Cllr Andrew Lye,
who represents the Town Council on the Management Committee of TTFC and
won support from his colleagues on the Council.
Cllr Lye said "It was not a foregone conclusion that we would get the
Council's support as there is a feeling among some councillors that the
Council had invested enough money in the site, already."
"I was honestly worried that the Council could have decided NOT to fund
the difference, but we were fortunate that George Bright came and spoke
to Councillors at the meeting, to inform them of the success of the
youth teams and the numbers of young people who play at Woodmarsh and
who are likely to play there over the next 19 years."
Cllr Lye added "The future of Trowbridge Town Football Club could have
been in doubt once more, had the Council not agreed to fund the balance
and I proposed the Council went ahead with the work and that we accept
the generous offer of TTYFC and TTFC to give £3000 between them.
However, I did feel that the Council had a moral obligation to possibly
consider a lower amount as the work should ideally have been done when
the works were done last year. Unfortunately, no councillor was
prepared to support that request".
"It is good news that the work has now been given approval and M J
Abbott Ltd will hopefully start work soon and that Trowbridge will
hopefully be admitted into the Wiltshire County League. The icing
on the cake would now be for TTFC to beat Southbrook at their home
ground on Saturday 25th March and that Trowbridge Town FC are league
champions in their first season, since being reformed."
Cllr Andrew C. Lye

Please contact Roy While if you would like to join the "Hat Gang".
17th December 1999 - Christmas Part Night
Pictures from last nights' Christmas Party can be seen by clicking
here. A very successful evening!
10th November 1999
The supporters team lost 0-5 to the main Trowbridge team tonight at
Meadow Lane, Westbury. This was a good practice match for the team as
they were limited to just a single goal lead at the half time break.
Chris Vaughan, playing for the supporters team had plenty to do
throughout but it has to be said that the supporters defended well in
the first half. The highlight of the game was when a well struck shot
beat Ian Diamond in the main team's goal, it hit the underside of the
bar and bounced down and out. Unfortunately there was not a Russian
linesman available so the supporters team failed to score against the
main team for the second time this season! Even Alan Roberts made a
second half appearance for the main team. Not too serious then, but a
good run out for both teams.
16th October 1999 - Cup decision goes against us.
Despite our appeal, we have been eliminated from the League Cup due to
fielding an unregistered player. The club also incurred a small fine.
Club treasurer Roy While said he was extremely disappointed as further
home games in the competition would have meant income from programme
sales. See 2nd October report below for details.
2nd October 1999 - Could we be out of the cup?
Trowbridge could be thrown out of the League Cup after accidentally
fielding an unregistered player. John Taylor was registered 12 days
before our cup game with Blunsdon. This is in plenty of time under
league rules but unfortunately for the cup it has to be 14 days. He was
brought on as a substitute when Trowbridge were already winning 2-0 and
only played two minutes. The club intend to appeal as it is unlikely
that the substitution bore any relation to the outcome. The result of
any appeal will of course appear in this section when known..
26th September 1999 - Friendly at Devizes?
A friendly has been arranged at Devizes, ko 7.30 Tuesday 28th September.
However, with the weather as it has been the fixture may already be in
doubt. Please check with Andrew Meaden on Tuesday (0771 3392933 after
4pm) before you travel.
Update:-
This match did take place, Devizes winning 7-0.
24th September 1999 - Could this be a record for the Chippenham Sunday
League?
The supporters team lost 28-2 to Old Lane on Sunday. One of the
Trowbridge goals came from the penalty spot and one went straight in
form a corner! Peter Williams summed up the game perfectly when he said
"I like playing at the back, you see more of the ball". Andrew Meaden is
reported to have replied that it is not supposed to stay stuck to the
opponents centre forwards boot though!
12th September 1999 - 12-0 is not a club record!
It appears that 12-0 is not the club record after all! Thanks to Rob
Lloyd-Smith for pointing out that the record is in fact 17-1. I checked
this in the Centenary Match Programme from 1980 and on a page headed
"Snippets from the past" I found the following:-
29th September 1945 Trowbridge T. 17, Yeovil & Petters
Res. 1.
Ken Abrahams scores 7 (just like Kirky!). Half time score 7-1.
Thanks Rob. I think I'll use this programme as a source for some
more snippets on a new history page soon. As they say, watch this space!
2nd September 1999 - 4th September 1999
The match on Tuesday night finished 9-0 to the Trowbridge first team.
According to Andrew Meaden the supporters made them work for it though!
Don't forget the Bath match tonight. Update: Goals from James Doogue and
Sean Colton gave us a 2-1 win! Next Match - v - Trowbridge Town Youth
U17's at Woodmarsh.
30th August 1999
Trowbridge Town Supporters club will be playing a practice match against
the main team tomorrow night at Bratton. They then play against Bath
City Supporters on Thursday 2nd September at Bath Civil Service Club.
Ian Diamond the supporters club goalkeeper played for the first team on
Saturday (due to holidays) and showed some very impressive handling.
Well done Ian!
21st August 1999
Trowbridge Town Supporters' club will play in Division 4 of the
Chippenham & District Sunday League. New players are still welcome with
friendlies arranged for 25th, 29th & 31st August. Please contact Andrew
Meaden (01225 400911) if you are interested.
24th August 1999 - Fixture News
Following the withdrawal from the league of Tidworth and Chiseldon, all
fixtures after 25th September are subject to change. As a result the
Fixtures/Results page will no longer show the fixtures for the whole
season. As soon as fixtures are known they will be added and will of
course appear in our match programmes. The fixture grid will no longer
show dates but will still show results. Whilst on the subject of
results, I have now corrected the error which showed Aldbourne 2
Biddestone Res 2, the match was in fact won by Biddestone 4-2.
11th June 1999 - AGM
Following the AGM, I am pleased to announce that the committee of the
club have consented to this site being known as "Official". I am of
course delighted at this decision and I hope that these pages are of
benefit the club and it's supporters as a means of communication.
The first AGM of the new club was very well attended. The committee were
all re-elected and everybody is looking forward to playing in the
Intermediate League from 21st August.
The Chairman, John Fitchen was proud to announce that the Wiltshire
Times will be the official club sponsors. Their support is very welcome
and is now recognised as such on the welcome page of this site.
29th May 1999

Division Four. A new kit has been donated and another local club have
offered playing and changing facilities.

May 29th 1999
New Manager Named.
Alan Roberts has been named as the new manager of Trowbridge Town. Alan
moved to Trowbridge 14 years ago form the north west of England and
already has managerial experience in the Wiltshire League. He managed
Bradford Town for three years and therefore has a good knowledge of
players at county level. Alan (37) describes the role as a huge
challenge, believing that the potential exists for Trowbridge to be the
biggest club in Wiltshire after Swindon. His playing career ranged from
the Lancashire Amateur League to the Trowbridge and District League,
whilst playing for Hilperton United.
