Trowbridge Town Take Over Wembley Stadium…

Well sort of anyway!

On Sunday the 15th October 2000, TTFC programme editor Andrew Meaden and 1999/2000
top scorer Neil Kirkpatrick fulfilled a lifetime ambition by playing on the hallowed Wembley turf.

The teams in the 30-minute each way match were captained by Roger Black (Whites) &
Tim Foster (Reds) with all 30 players rotating and everyone on the pitch for the last 5 minutes.

Tim’s Coxless XV won the match 1-0 with a side foot goal scored by cricketer Dermot Reeve
but both our TTFC heroes came close. Andrew Meaden produced a cool low shot that the
goalkeeper just managed to get down to with his left hand and Neil Kirkpatrick produced
a super “Wembley fit” volley only to see an equally fine save from Philip Eades.

All the players and officials were presented with commemorative medals from a Queen look-a-like
after the game and everyone had the chance to lift the cup having walked up the famous Wembley steps.
All the players and the 60+ Trowbridge Town supporters that made the trip attended a reception afterwards.
I managed to get permission to go down pitch side and take some photographs to finish
off a very enjoyable day.

These and other pictures from the day can be seen by choosing the Wembley Charity gallery.
