23rd April 2003 Trowbridge Town Reserves 4
Blunsdon United 1
As the 1st team travelled to play in
their county cup match the reserves had to play
against bottom of the table Blunsdon Utd. The game
never really was competitive from the start with
Trowbridge dominating for long periods but not
really making their pressure into goals. Trowbridge
did score early with Michael Grieves on his debut
scoring from close range then Booker Woodford
doubled the lead when he beat the offside trap to
coolly slot home in the corner.
The 2nd half never really took off with Trowbridge
having good possession but again not turning their
dominance into more goals. They did score twice more
when Booker Woodford scored with a superb header
from Jerome Dyers pin point cross also Michael
Grieves scored his 2nd to put the game safe.
Blunsdon did score a consolation when poor defending
let Blunsdon in!
This certainly was a typical end of season game on a
bone hard Woodmarsh but Trowbridge youngsters again
looked so comfortable on the ball
12th April 2003 Wanborough United 4 Trowbridge
Town Reserves 2
(Intermediate Cup Final)
Trowbridge Reserves made their 1st
ever appearance in a senior cup final. Starting as
underdogs Trowbridge soon found themselves 1-0 down
when the Trowbridge defence failed to clear a free
kick into the area. Trowbridge struggled to cope
with the long ball tactics that Wanborough used but
they did slowly get in to the game. Midway through
the 1st half Trowbridge equalised when Matthew
Penman struck another superb free kick. Trowbridge
pushed on & began to grow in confidence & were
rewarded again when a corner came in & Guy Rowley
met it with a powerful header which was cleared of
the line but there was Matthew Penman to follow it
in. Trowbridge pushed forward but chances were few &
far between & they went in at half time narrowly
winning
Trowbridge came out well in the 2nd half & should
have made the game safe midway through the 2nd half
but Steve Jackson missed a gilt edge chance. The
following clearance led to Wanborough equalising &
there was only going to be one winner. As the ball
never seemed to be on the ground Wanborugh kept
pumping the ball into the box & took the lead when
again the ball was not cleared properly and
Wanborough scored. Trowbridge did have chances to
equalise but David Campbells shot was somehow
stopped by the Wanborough keeper & Matthew Penmans
free kick was turned over. Wanborough did score
again in the final moments to make the game safe &
take the trophy. The Towbridge youngsters did well
today but struggled with the physical dominance of
Wanborough but they can all take a lot out of the
experience & come back stronger next time out
5th April 2003 Down Ampney 1 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 3
After finally making it to Down
Ampney 15 minutes late, Trowbridge started brightly
and put Down Ampney onto the back foot from the
start. Moving the ball well on both flanks chances
went begging for Kitch, Lee Hayward & the best to
Guy Rowley. With Lee Murden making his debut for the
reserves and having a fine 90 minutes Trowbridge
really piled on the pressure. They were finally
rewarded when Simon Kitchen fired home from close
range after numerous attempts by others to score.
Trowbridge went in at half time 1-0 up. The 2nd half
started off terribly when Down Ampney scored
straight after the break when poor marking let
Trowbridge down. Trowbridge then picked up a gear
taking control in all areas of the park. With Nick
Gleeson back to his best Trowbridge scored again
when Guy Rowley rounded the keeper to slot home. Lee
Hayward made the game safe when he followed up a
shot from Simon Kitchen to add to his tally this
season. Special Mention must go to Shaun Daniels who
again was a rock for Trowbridge, Paul Ford was
superb in his 1st game as sweeper & Adam Glover Who
did a massive favour going in goal and looking
natural at it
22nd
March 2003 Trowbridge Town Reserves 4 Biddestone
Reserves 0
Trowbridge got back to winning ways today but the
score-line probably flattered them.
In a dull 1st half both sides were unable to create
any real clear cut chances with both defences
holding out well.
With Trowbridge kicking downhill in the 2nd half the
game opened up & with the inspirational Shaun
Daniels pushing his players on Trowbridge seemed to
take control. It took 2 substitutions in the final
25 minute to bring the game to life. With the
arrival of Lee Hayward & Guy Rowley Trowbridge
seemed to step up a gear & cause havoc to the
Biddestone defence. It was Guy Rowley who broke
through and with the Biddestone keeper handling
outside gave Matthew Penman the opportunity to rifle
home an unstoppable 25 yard free kick. The
floodgates then opened with Lee Hayward running on
to add a second, then Paul Ford made it 3. With a
few minutes left the engine David Campbell scored
the 4th and that was game over for Biddestone.
Trowbridge performed well today looking solid
throughout & the midfield 3 of Shaun Daniel's Paul
Ford & David Campbell never stopped running. With
Jerome Dyer & Chris Gittins playing well at wing
backs & Lee Hayward & Guy Rowley making such an
impression when they came on Trowbridge found a
different level. Adam Glover Luke Smith & Matthew
Penman with goalkeeper Tom Berryman were once again
superb in giving Biddestone not one chance all
game. This now moves Trowbridge into 3rd and once
again well placed.
15th March 2003 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 0 Dunbar Westside 1
For the 4th time in the season we
came up against top of the table Dunbar Westside,
and it proved to be once again an excellent match.
Dunbar started strongly & pushed forward but were
well thwarted by the back 3 of Adam Glover, Matthew
Penman & Adrian Barnes, making his debut for the
reserves. With Shaun Daniels working hard in
midfield chances were hard to come by but Tom
Berryman pulled of one world class save to keep
Trowbridge in the game. Trowbridge created few
chances in the 1st half but battled superbly to keep
the score goalless at half-time.
Trowbridge really took the game to Dunbar in the 2nd
half & chances went begging but none could be
finished. Dunbar took the lead when a harmless shot
somehow found its way into the back of the net.
Trowbridge continued to push forward but again
missed chances with all strikers being guilty. The
introduction of Guy Rowley, returning after 7 months
out with a broken leg brought some extra fire power
and his pace caused problems for the Dunbar defence.
In the closing moments Lee Hayward hit the post and
following the rebound 15 year old Chris Gittins was
brought down for the penalty. Unfortunately Nick
Gleeson shot wide from the kick, and with the final
whistle going seconds later the score remained 1-0
to Dunbar.
22nd
February 2003 Stratton Crosslink
Reserves 2 Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
Trowbridge travelled to Swindon
hoping to keep up the good run of form, but came
away disappointed to gain nothing from the game.
Stratton who had several 1st team players on show
started the strongest and with Rick Casey in the
centre of midfield caused Trowbridge a few problems
early on. They took the lead midway through the 1st
half when Rick Casey ran through unchallenged to
shoot past the unlucky Tom Berryman. Trowbridge
managed to settle down & were unlucky when Lee
Hayward went close with 2 good efforts when on
another day he would have scored. Trowbridge battled
well but could not score before half time.
Trowbridge dominated the 2nd half but again it was
the same old story with many chances being missed,
worst culprits being Dean Murden, Lee Hayward &
Ricky Hulbert all missing glorious chances.
Trowbridge equalised when Dean Murden ran through,
his shot was saved & Lee Hayward was there to knock
into an empty net to score his 1st goal for the
club. It looked like there would only be one winner,
but Trowbridge were caught out when making a
substitution, the referee did not wait for the
player to get in place, so with acres of space in
the centre of midfield Rick Casey again got through
to give Stratton the winner. Trowbridge still had
chances to equalise but again poor decision making
in front of goal cost them at least the point they
deserved. Trowbridge played well again today and
shows how far they have gone, 4 months ago they lost
7-2 against a weaker Stratton team, today they
should have gained at least a point if not all 3.
All in all it was a good game of football by 2 good
teams
8th February 2003 Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
Stratton Crosslink Reserves 1
(Int Cup Semi-Final)
Trowbridge moved into the final of
the league cup with a hard fought win against a
strengthened Stratton team. With 5 regular players
missing due to 1st team call ups & holidays,
Trowbridge had to call on players from their 3rd
string, & they certainly did not let themselves
down. Trowbridge kicked up hill in the 1st half &
had slightly the better possession, but not really
creating any real chances. They did manage to break
through when Dean Murden, who chased tiresely all
game, forced the goalkeeper into a error and them
calmly slotted it into the empty net. Stratton did
push on but were kept at bay by Tim Gabb, Matthew
Penman & Shaun Daniels. Anything that did get
through was easily claimed by 16 year old Tom
Berryman who once again was superb in goal.
Going down hill in the 2nd half Trowbridge should
have wrapped the game up with Jack Heard missing a
couple of great chances to seal the tie. Stratton
equalised when the ball was whipped in for a
unmarked Stratton midfielder to volley home. As
extra time loomed Trowbridge were again unlucky when
Dean Murden hit the post & then was hauled down on
the edge of the box when clean through on goal.
Surprisingly no card was shown to the Stratton
defender!
Stratton dominated the 1st period of extra time but
great defending & superb keeping kept Trowbridge in
the game. The 2nd period was completely Trowbridge &
they took the lead when Chris Gittins bundled the
ball over the line. As Stratton tired Trowbridge
piled on the pressure & once again hit the post
when the outstanding Jerome Dyer broke down the left
and rifled a shot against the upright. The tie was
settled when Dean Murden was pulled down in the box,
for Andrew Bloodworth to convert the penalty and
bring the game to a finish. Trowbridge were superb
today with such a inexperienced young team, and they
can all be proud of their achievement, With 16 year
old Dean Murden walking away, just, with man-of-the
match
1st February 2003 Calne Town Reserves
1 Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
Trowbridge played
against Calne for the 2nd Consecutive week and came
away with a share of the spoils. Trowbridge made
changes from the previous week & Calne also had a
change of personnel. The game was very tight from
the start with neither team creating any real
chances It was a battle of the midfield & with both
teams contesting hard no clear cut chances were
really made. Trowbridge were forced into an early
change when Andrew Bloodworth had to come off with a
bad back. Jerome Dyer who was superb throughout the
game, ably replaced him. His 1st contribution was to
set up Chris Tricker with the 1st chance of the
game, but his shot was well saved by the Calne
goalkeeper. Calnes’ best efforts came from 2
consecutive corners, due to their physical & height
advantage, Trowbridge always struggled. Half time
came but it was still 0-0.
Straight away in the 2nd half Trowbridge took the
lead, when a mistake in the Calne defence let in
Booker Woodford to score on his return. Trowbridge
continued to push forward but struggled to make any
inroads. When Calne did attack Luke Smith, Adam
Glover, Tim Gabb & Matthew Penman all coped superbly
with the Calne strikeforce. As the game went on
Trowbridge were pushed back but did have 3 great
chances to wrap the match up falling to Booker
Woodford & Debutant Lee Hayward. Calne finally
equalised when again from a corner the Calne striker
had a free header to score. With moments to go
Trowbridge could have claimed all 3 points but
Booker Woodford missed a glorious chance. Trowbridge
worked hard today on a sticky pitch. The midfield of
Nick Gleeson, Shaun Daniels, David Campbell, Ricky
Hulbert & Jerome Dyer worked tirelessly, with 15
year old Tom Berryman again having another good game
in goal. Trowbridge certainly deserved at least the
point, if not all 3
25th January 2003 Trowbridge Town Reserves 4
Calne Town Reserves 1
Trowbridge moved up to 4th with another convincing
win to match last weeks performance. With Neil
Kirkpatrick & Adam Glover making a welcome return
Trowbridge looked steady at the back which let the
midfield push on. Trowbridge took the lead when Mike
Little scored for the 2nd consecutive week,
converting a Ricky Hulbert Cross. David Percival
soon made it 2 when he went on his trademark run to
beat several players to double the lead. Trowbridge
should have scored more but again missed several
good chances. Calne did manage to pull one back just
before half time, when a corner was not dealt with &
an unmarked Calne player bundled the ball over the
line.
The 2nd half Trowbridge looked a lot fitter than
their opponents & this paid off as David Percival
scored his 2nd of the game from the penalty spot.
Jack Heard once again came of the bench to make the
game safe as he fired home the 4th to give
Trowbridge another 3 points in the league.
18th January 2003 Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
Down Ampney 0
Trowbridge kept up their unbeaten
run with a comfortable victory over Down Ampney.
Trowbridge took total control throughout the game
against a team who only wanted to spoil the game
with needless free kicks & constant moaning at a
very weak referee. Playing up the hill on a heavy
pitch Trowbridge took the lead in the 1st half when
Mike Little scored inside the penalty box.
Trowbridge should have added more but chances went
begging & nearly all the players were at fault. They
doubled the lead before half time when David
Percival beat a number of players to make it 2-0.
In the 2nd half Trowbridge once again dominated, but
couldn't make their chances count. Sloppy finishing
again spoiling good build up play. Substitute Jack
Heard came on to wrap the game up when his deflected
shot found the back of the net. This was a good work
out for the young Trowbridge team but the only
downfall was the scoreline probably didn't match the
overall performance.
4th January 2003 Biddestone FC Reserves 1
Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
Fielding seven 1st team regulars,
Trowbridge were looking to gain maximum points from
this fixture. Trowbridge started poorly & were
caught out after 5 minutes when poor defending let
in Biddestone to take the lead. It could have got
worse when a goalmouth scramble was eventually
cleared away. Trowbridge managed to get into gear
and created 3 or 4 good chances falling to Chris
Tricker & David Percival but neither player could
convert them. As Trowbridge pushed forward
Biddestone did look dangerous on the break but Adam
Shepard in the Trowbridge goal was hardly troubled.
Trowbridge did have a couple of chances before the
break both falling to Daniel Barnes who was unlucky
not to score.
Trowbridge freshened things up in the 2nd half &
started very brightly, moving the ball all around
the park. Again chances went begging. The
introduction of Mike Little & Neil Kirkpatrick up
front changed the game. The ball being held up
better bringing the midfield into play. Trowbridge
equalised when a corner was not cleared & Daniel
Barnes with his 1st goal of the season pounced.
Trowbridge piled on the pressure, but could not
break down a stubborn Biddestone defence whose
goalkeeper was in fine form. In the final few
minutes Biddestone launched a long ball forward, &
Shaun Daniels timely intervention saved Trowbridge
from going home with nothing. Trowbridge looked
rusty today, but good performances came from Daniel
Barnes, Adam Glover, Shaun Daniels, Tim Waylen, also
it was good to see Matthew Penman coming back from
injury.
21st December 2002 Sherston 2 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 2
Trowbridge travelled to Sherston for
the 2nd time this season still searching for their
1st win against the hosts. They were soon of the
mark with Steve Jackson scoring after 2 minutes to
give the visitors the perfect start. Trowbridge
probably played their best football of the season in
the 1st half & with all the players contributing it
was no surprise when Booker Woodford scored a 2nd
midway in the half following good work from Andrew
Bloodworth & Tim Gabb making his 1st start for the
reserves this season.
Trowbridge should have made the game safe but could
not convert any of their many chances.
The 2nd half was a completely different story &
Sherston came at Trowbridge hard & following a mix
up Sherston scored to pull themselves back into the
game. They levelled the game when Chris Maskrey made
a rash challenge in the area to concede a penalty.
Sheraton equalised from the spot. Trowbridge were
further hampered when a show of petulance from
Trowbridges Keeeper,Craig Guthrie earned him a
deserved red card. With Tim Gabb taking over between
the sticks, Trowbridge organised themselves well &
managed to hold on for the draw.
14th December 2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves 4
Stratton Crosslink Reserves 1
With the 1st team match being called
off due to county commitments, Trowbridge were able
to pull in some of the 1st team squad to bolster
their team. It started well with Trowbridge
attacking from the start & they went close with
Chris Tricker & Ricky Hulbert missing a couple of
chances. They soon took the lead when Chris Tricker
finished a nice move from a Steve Wickings flick on.
Trowbridge doubled their lead when Andrew Bloodworth
broke from the half way line & set up Chris Tricker
for his 2nd of the game.
In the 2nd Half Trowbridge continued to dominate and
were rewarded further when Ricky Hulbert again
finished of a good move involving Chris Tricker &
Nick Gleeson. Stratton did get back into the game &
were rewarded when some poor defending let them pull
a goal back. This didn't disturb Trowbridges’
dominance & substitute Booker Woodford Sealed the
game with a good finish from the edge of the area.
It was good to see the reserve back to winning way
after last weeks dreadful performance away at
Blunsdon
7th December 2002 Blunsdon United Reserves 3
Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
After another long lay off
Trowbridge travelled to Blunsdon. They started
brightly with 1st team player Waleed Bakali hitting
the post in the opening moments & then Ricky Hulbert
missing a great chance from a Bakali cross. Blunsdon
took the lead after 8 minutes when a hopeful
clearance fell to the Blunsdon Striker who calmly
slotted it past the helpless Craig Guthrie in goal.
They soon doubled their lead when a corner came
across leaving a Blunsdon player completely unmarked
to volley home. Trowbridge battled back but numerous
chances could not be converted. Struggling to cope
on a very small boggy pitch Trowbridge could not
find any rhythm to their game.
In the 2nd half Trowbridge really began to get stuck
in & were rewarded when the impressive Bakali
crossed from the by line for Booker Woodford to slot
home. After this Trowbridge dominated the next 30
minutes but it was the same story with chances being
missed by a number of players. With Trowbridge
having complete control of the game, they were hit
with a cruel blow when within 2 minutes both Paul
Shanley & the superb Craig Guthrie in goal had to
come of. For the last 10 minutes Trowbridge had
to play with 10 men and lost all momentum, to make
matters worse Neil Kirkpatrick dislocated his finger
so a 2nd reserve keeper had to go in. Blunsdon
scored a 3rd undeserving goal in the final minutes
to make the game safe.
Trowbridge started sloppy today & a mixture of very
poor finishing & a lack of desire cost Trowbridge
dearly. 3 points that should have been gained were
certainly just given away
16th November 2002 Sherston 1 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 1
Trowbridge returned to action after
missing previous weeks games due to the weather.
They started off rusty & could not get any fluency
to their game. The return of Andrew Bloodworth from
long term injury & Matthew Penman strengthened the
team but they soon found themselves 1-0 down when a
Sherston midfielder hit a unstoppable shot past
Craig Guthrie from 25 yards. Trowbridge battled hard
but could not make any inroads against a well
organised Sherston team, and were lucky not to be
losing by more. Craig Guthrie making 3 superb saves
to keep Trowbridge in the game. Trowbridge changed a
few things in the 2nd half & this seemed to make all
the difference. Trowbridge dominated the half &
equalised when Marc Sheppard scored with a
well-struck shot. Trowbridge should have gone on &
won the match but missed several good chances, the
worst culprit when Marc Sheppard missing an open
goal from the edge of the area. Sherston hardly
threatened in the 2nd half but when they did the
back 3 of Daniel Barnes Matthew Penman & Tim Gabb
coped well. Good games coming in midfield from Nick
Gleeson & Paul Ford. The return of Andrew Bloodworth
was a bonus & he got through the 90 minutes showing
that he has not lost any of his talent. Also
15-year-old Chris Gittins was impressive up front &
was full of confidence.
26th October 2002 Wanborough United 1 Trowbridge
Town Reserves 2
Trowbridge travelled to league
leaders Wanborough in what was to be their toughest
test of the season. With players returning from
injury & 1st team call ups, Trowbridge fielded a
very strong squad which they needed to do. It did
not start well when after 3 minutes Wanborough
scored from a cross. This was the kick start
Trowbridge needed with all players fired up
Trowbridge got back into the game & were not
intimidated by Wanborough's physical presence. With
Steve Wickens & Boooker Woodford working hard up
front & Paul Ford pulling the strings in midfield
Trowbridge began to dominate. They were rewarded
when Steve Wickins fired a shot in to the top corner
to equalise. Trowbridge's defence, with the superb
Adam Glover, Craig Humble & being well organised by
the again very impressive Craig Guthrie in goal,
held on well against the pressure Wanborough put on
them. Trowbridge scored again, & the goal came
from Luke Smith who finished well to gain maximum
points. Trowbridge were unlucky not to score more
but again poor finishing let them down. Everybody
performed well especially the midfield, including
David Campbell, Paul Ford, Nick Gleeson, Tim Gabb,
Chris Maskrey & Luke Smith. They thoroughly
deserved their victory. Special praise must go to
Alan Burke who masterminded the victory in Paul
Kings absence. Trowbridge must now start producing
this form regularly & must now move on to Saturdays
game against Down Ampney at Woodmarsh 2.15 K.O.
19th October 2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves 0
Calne Town Reserves 2
Trowbridge came down to earth with a
bump after 2 superb results against Dunbar in
previous weeks. Calne Town visited Woodmarsh & left
with all 3 points. Trowbridge probably played their
worst they have done all season. Missing key players
due to injury & 1st team call ups, Trowbridge never
really got going. Calne took the lead in the 1st
half when a mix up in defence let in the Calne
striker to score. Trowbridge did create many chances
but some poor finishing & good goalkeeping kept them
at bay.
In the 2nd half Trowbridge were slightly better but
again missing good chances, could not break down
Calne. Calne doubled the lead when once again poor
defending left the 15 year old Tom Berryman exposed
in goal & he had no chance with the goal. Trowbridge
played poorly today & the people who came in did not
do themselves any favours to cement their places in
the reserves, The only players to come out of the
game with any credit were Daniel Barnes, Adam Glover
& David Campbell. Trowbridge need to beat teams like
Calne to start to climb the table, they must make a
rapid improvement as they face league leaders
Wanborough next Saturday
5th October 2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
Dunbar Westside 1
Trowbridge played Dunbar for the 3rd
time in 4 weeks and were once again rewarded with a
superb team performance & result. Tom Berryman
making his debut at the age of 15 in goal was superb
& a credit to the youth set up. Trowbridge started
brightly & did not let Dunbar have any space in an
untidy 1st twenty minutes. This seemed to frustrate
a poorly disciplined Dunbar team who started to get
very aggressive in their tackling & continuous
moaning. They did take the lead when a mistake in
midfield let a Dunbar player cross the ball to be
put in well by the centre forward. Trowbridge
continued to battle & went in at half time trailing
by that goal. The 2nd half was much better for
Trowbridge who began to dominate for long periods &
were rewarded when the impressive Ricky Hulbert
crossed for Ben Tilling to prod home from 8 yards.
Trowbridge kept on pushing forward but could not
break the stubborn Dunbar defence. When Dunbar did
break The Trowbridge back 3 of Adam Glover, Daniel
Barnes & Jim Picknell coped superbly & never really
looked in trouble. Trowbridge once again performed
brilliantly to match Dunbar all over the pitch, & it
was good to see superb individual performances from
everyone. Also good to see Chris Tricker back from
long term injury & David Campbell after long
absence. Again no special mention to any players so
the squad was: Tom Berryman, Adam Glover, Daniel
Barnes, Jim Picknell, Nick Gleeson,P aul Ford, Ben
Tilling, Chris Musgratt, Ricky Hulbert, Chris
Tricker, Marc Sheppard, Jerome Dyer, David Campbell,
Mark Haynes & Dean Murden
28th September 2002 Dunbar Westside 1 Trowbridge
Town Reserves 2
Trowbridge pulled off the Cup Shock
of the weekend, knocking out league & Cup holders
Dunbar Westside. Trowbridge were hammered 2 weeks
ago 8-2 in the league, but this time matched Dunbar
all over the park. With 4 changes from the previous
team & no 1st team regulars except the impressive
Craig Guthrie in goal, Trowbridge battled for all
the 90 minutes. Trowbridge started sluggish & were
lucky not to go 1 down in the opening minutes, but
Dunbar were denied by a good save from Guthrie.
Trowbridge managed to get to the pace of the game &
created a couple of half chances to Steve Jackson &
Booker Woodford. Dunbar did take the lead when a
poor defensive header from the otherwise faultless
veteran Neil Kirkpatrick fell to a Dunbar forward,
who had time to pick his spot.
Trowbridge went in at half time trailing by the one
goal. They came out 2nd half just as determined &
soon were on the attack with chances falling to the
forwards. Trowbridge midway through the half,
equalised when the Keeper dropped a simple catch, to
give Booker Woodford an easy goal. Trowbridge pushed
forward & were rewarded when Ricky Hulbert made a
surging run into the penalty box to score the
eventual winner. Dunbar could not pick up the pace,
so giving Trowbridge a major scalp in the cup.
Trowbridge really played well with all players
playing superbly. No special mentions today because
everybody work so hard. The squad was: Craig
Guthrie, Neil Kirkpatrick, Luke Smith, Daniel
Barnes, Craig Maskrey, Paul Ford, Nick Gleeson, Mark
Connors, Rickey Hulbert, Steve Jackson, Booker
Woodford, Ben Tilling, Adam Glover & Tim Gabb.
Congratulations must go to them
all!!
14th September 2002 Dunbar Westside 8 Trowbridge
Town Reserves 2
Trowbridge again with out players due to 1st team
call ups including goalkeeper Craig Guthrie and were
completely outplayed by a very impressive Dunbar
Team. Trailing 5- 0 at half time Trowbridge looked
dead & buried, but to their credit came out 2nd half
much more determined. Straight away, Rickey Hulbert,
impressive once again, beat 5 players to score his
2nd in two games to bring some credibility to the
scoreline. Trowbridge competed in all areas but were
unfortunate to concede a soft goal when substitute
Craig Humble slipped in the area to let Dunbar make
it 6-1. Trowbridge continued to work hard and
created more chances but were unlucky not to score
again. Marc Shepard did score his 1st for the club
but it was all too late and Dunbar scored two more
to leave the score 8-2.
Trowbridge today, were taught a lesson by a very
useful team, but hopefully the young lads will learn
from the game, & this will be a good test of
character. Welcome to Senior Football!

Trowbridge Town Reserves 2
Trowbridge reserves unbeaten run
came to a abrupt halt away to a average Stratton
team. Without a proper goalkeeper, centre back
Daniel Barnes played in goal. Trowbridge looked
shaky from the start of the game & went behind when
some poor defending let in the Stratton Centre
forward to score a easy lob over the stranded
keeper. It continued to get worse when again poor
marking let in Stratton to get a 2nd. Trowbridge did
come to life & began to produce some nice football
but the end product was not there. They held on to
half-time trailing 2-0. Trowbridge started the 2nd
half well & soon scored through a good finish from
Steve Jackson. Trowbridge piled on the pressure but
missed chance after chance with all players to
blame. The turning point came when a dreadful error
from centre back Mark Haynes let in the Stratton
Forward with a easy finish to make it 3-1 Trowbridge
went to pieces & were hit time after time . Ricky
Hulbert whose performance was the only highlight
from a very average team performance scored a 2nd
for Trowbridge to pull back another, but it was all
too late & Stratton went on to score 4 more times to
leave the final score 7-2.

Trowbridge made the short trip to
the in form Biddestone midweek. The game started
slowly due to the warm evening, but Trowbridge soon
took hold when a good Dave Percival cross was put
just wide from Steve Jackson. Steve Turnball did
give Trowbridge the lead when he powered through to
tuck it under the keeper to score his 1st goal for
the club. This goal sparked Trowbridge into action &
with their attacking football were soon rewarded
again when Steve Jackson scored superbly from the
edge of the area to take his tally to 3 in 2 games.
Trowbridge contiued to push forward but could not
increase their lead before half time Trowbridge
started the 2nd half brightly & soon made it 3 when
Dave Percival beat 3 players to rifle in the 3rd.
Biddestone changed their formation pushing more
players forward which caused Trowbridge a few
problems. Biddestone did score when a neat cross was
well finished by the centre forward. Biddestone did
push on but were always endangered by the quick
Trowbridge counter attack. It was Dave Percival who
made the game safe when once again he burst through
to add the 4th. Trowbridge could have scored more
but missed other good chances. This was by far the
Reserves best performance of the season & puts them
into 3rd place with a game in hand on the Leaders

Blunsdon United 3
Trowbridge played their 3rd in game
in a week & for the 1st time went in to the game as
favourite. After the fiirst 15 minutes Trowbridge
took absolute control with Blunsdon looking in
disarray. Trowbridge were rewarded when a Luke Smite
cross was nodded in by Steve Jackson for his 1st of
the season. This was quickly followed by Booker
Woodford tapping in from close range when the
Blunsdon Keeper spilled a Steve Jackson shot.
Trowbridge then made it 3 when the impressive Steve
Jackson fired in a volley from the edge of the area
to make it 3-0 within 20 minutes. It looked as it
was going to be a hammering as Trowbridge powered
forward but with chances going missing Blunsdon
slowly started to get back into the game. Just
before half time a defensive lapse let in Blunsdon
to score to make the half time score 3-1. Trowbridge
will probably not play as badly again as they did in
the 2nd half, with the midfield losing all shape
except Ricky Hulbert who was again in impressive
form. Blunsdon got back into the game scoring midway
through the half. Trowbridge continued to push
forward & squandered plenty of chances to
wrap the game up, with nearly every player to blame.
They were finally punished for there inept 2nd half
performance when a free kick was put in the box &
the Blunsdon centre back powered a good header in
past the unlucky Craig Guthrie. The damage was done,
Trowbridge paid dearly for their inexperience & will
look at this game as 2 points lost. The only good
thing is that they did not lose.
21st August 2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves 0
Sherston 0
Sherston Utd made the long midweek trek to
Trowbridge, in a game which should have tested
Trowbridge to their limits. Trowbridge, bringing in
a few players due to injuries & work commitments
again started well against a very good Sherston team
& should have taken a early lead when Steve Turnball
missed a good chance with the Sherston Keeper
stranded. Chances were few & far between in the 1st
half with both midfields & defence holding strong.
Trowbridge played better in the 2nd half but could
not create hardly any chances in the 2nd half the
best falling to 16 year old Ricky Hulbert who was
unlucky with his shot. Trowbridges defence with 1st
team Manager Neil Kirkpatrick making his seasonal
debut were superb & in midfield again captain Mark
Connors alongside Nick Gleeson played well.
Trowbridges good early season form continues still
yet to concede a goal & remain unbeaten
17th August 2002 Down Ampney 0 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 1
Trowbridge Town Reserves made their senior debut in
the Intermediate League away at Down Ampney. On a
hot & Sunny day Trowbridge started strongly passing
the ball around well on a very good playing surface,
it was not long before Rich Powell scored on his
debut for the reserves following a good move
involving Matthew Penman & Booker Woodford.
Trowbridge continued to dominate & should have
scored 3 or 4 more before the break, but good
chances were squandered .In the 2nd half Trowbridge
continued to create chances but could not find a way
past the Down Ampney keeper. Trowbridge were strong
all over the park & the impressive Mark Connors in
the centre of midfield pushed the young Trowbridge
team on. In the final few minutes of the half Down
Ampney nearly equalised but were thwarted thanks to
the Trowbridge defence& keeper. Trowbridge looked
sharp today & everybody played well, looking very
fit & sharp for the whole 90 minutes. Everybody in
the squad made excellent contributions & it was nice
to get of to a winning start. |
