30th April 2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves
1 Freshford 0

Trowbridge came to Bradford looking
to complete the league & Cup double against a
Freshford side who had been stubborn opposition in
all previous encounters. Trowbridge started
nervously and never got into their stride throughout
the game. Freshford were not going to be walked over
& competed in all areas of the park. There were few
chances in the 1st half the best going to Lewis
Haldane & Simon Kitchen for Trowbridge, Tom Hopkins
going close for Freshford. Trowbridge came out in
the 2nd half with more determination and began to
dominate. Trowbridge's defence with Luke Smith &
Neil Kirkpatrick & well organised by Andy Bonser
never really looked in trouble, but it was the
substitute Luke Turvey who made the change. Within 5
minutes of coming off the bench he threaded the ball
through to David Percival who rounded the stranded
goalkeeper to score into an empty net and give
Trowbridge the vital lead. Trowbridge held out the
final 10 minutes & should of made the game safe when
David Percival went through with just the goalkeeper
to beat & somehow missed his shot. It did not matter
as this was the last effort of the game & Trowbridge
had managed to complete the double. Andy Bonser was
named man of the match but the whole team showed
grit & determination when it was really needed.
Today they needed a different kind of performance &
they produced. Full credit to these young lads in
their 1st season in adult football

3 Blue Circle 1
Trowbridge clinched the championship
beating closest rivals Blue Circle at Woodmarsh. In
front of a big crowd Trowbridge started slowly & for
the 1st twenty minutes were pinned back in their own
half. Playing down the slope and with the winds to
their backs Blue Circle pressed forward & were
rewarded when Ryan Mead scored to give Blue Circle a
half-time lead. Trowbridge did begin to play & some
good passing was not rewarded with the final touch.
The 2nd half was a completely different affair.
Trowbridge came out with all guns blazing & soon
equalised when Steve Wickings scored direct from a
corner. Trowbridge continued to push forward and
soon scored again when Lewis Haldane finished of a
smart move involving David Campbell & Luke Turvey.
Trowbridge created numerous chances, which due to
misfortune & poor finishing they could not increase
their lead. They even missed a penalty when Lewis
Haldane was pulled down by the keeper, only for Neil
Kirkpatrick's spot kick to be well saved by Blue
Circles Keeper. Steve Wickings did finally find the
net to settle everyone's nerves and also to clinch
the championship at the 1st time of asking.
Trowbridge now take on Freshford Utd on Tuesday 30th
April at Bradford Town 6.15 Kick off, to see if they
can now claim the double. It has been a truly
remarkable year with most youngster making their1st
steps into adult football. The club should be very
proud of everything they have achieved.
13th April 2002 Lavington & Easterton 2
Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
(Cup 1st Leg)
Trowbridge Reserves went into this
game expecting a battle from a Lavington side who
had made 7 changes from the previous weeks' league
encounter. The pitch was extremely small, which made
the game into a scrappy affair with no time on the
ball for either team. The 1st half was a even affair
with not many chances falling to either team.
Lavington took the lead when the
experienced Andy Bonser gave the ball away & left
Lavingtons Lee Wells an easy chance to score.
Trowbridge were soon level when a long clearance
from Craig Guthrie was met on the bounce by Lewis
Haldane who made no mistake with the finish to score
his 27th of the season. The 1st half was littered
with fouls mainly from Lavington, so as a spectacle
was a non-event.
The 2nd half was not much better with the referee
blowing every few moments for numerous things.
Trowbridge did have the better chances with Lewis
Haldane going close on a couple of times & Waleed
Bakali hitting the cross bar from 25 yards.
Trowbridge did have a strong penalty appeal turned
down when a Matthew Penman Free Kick looked to have
been Hand-balled in the area, but this was the 1st
decision the referee didnt make! Lavington did score
in the final minutes when Neil Kirkpatrick appeared
to be hauled down by the Lavington centre forward,
the referee allowed play to go on for Lavingtons
Rob Jenks to score with 2 minutes remaining. There
was no way back for Trowbridge, so they start next
weeks 2nd leg with a 1 goal deficit. It should be a
interesting encounter for this young Trowbridge
Side.
11th April
2002 Bradford Sports Reserves 0 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 13
Trowbridge Reserves clinched
promotion to the 1st division after this very
convincing win away at Bradford. With a couple of
players missing or rested Trowbridge still fielded a
very strong side, which is one of the benefits of
having such a strong squad.
Trowbridge started brightly with good passing &
moving straight from the kick off & could have taken
the lead when Lewis Haldane went through on goal but
missed the target. He didn't take long to make
amends when a Neil Kirkpatrick knock back was forced
home by the prolific striker. Steve Wickins soon
made it 2-0, with Lewis completing his hat-trick
before half time &
Ricky Hulbert, after some superb skill, scoring to
make it 5-0 at the break. With Lewis coming off just
after half-time & being replaced by Steve Jackson,
Trowbridge continued to dominate, scoring 8 more
times. The goals being shared between Simon Kitchen
with a 30 yrd screamer, Steve Jackson(2), Luke
Turvey, David Campbell, & Steve Wickins notching up
a 2nd half hat-trick to take his tally to 4 in the
game. The last of his goals was a 25 yrd unstoppable
free-kick which was the icing on cake in which was
due rewards for such a fine team performance.
Trowbridge now look forward to Saturdays League Cup
semi-final 1st Leg away to Lavington & Easterton
Kick Off 2.30 p.m.
6th April
2002 Trowbridge Town Reserves 5 Lavington &
Easterton 1
Trowbridge looked sharp from the
kick off against a much fancied Lavington &
Easterton. They soon took the lead when, following
good work from Waleed Bakali & Steve Wickings set up
a easy chance for David Percival to score,
Trowbridge soon doubled the lead when Steve Wickings
was on hand to score. Lavington did pull a goal back
when in blustery conditions they
scored direct from a corner. Trowbridge mainained
the pressure and soon scored again when David
Percival beat the offside trap to neatly round the
keeper and make it 3-1 just before half-time. The
second half was a dull affair with both teams
putting in little effort on a hard surface & in the
windy conditions, but Trowbridge did score twice
more through Steve Wickings scoring again to take
his tally to 7 in 3 games & Matthew Penman coming of
the bench to make the game safe with Trowbridges
fifth.
This result takes Trowbridge closer to promotion &
the title with 2 points needed from their last 3
games to secure both. A great achievement for such a
young squad.
23rd March
2002 Hilperton United 2 Trowbridge Town Reserves 5
Trowbridge travelled the short
distance to Hilperton expecting a tough battle from
the home side, who are well known for their physical
game plan. Hilperton had one intention in mind and
that was to kick everything that moved and due to
some extremely weak refereeing they spent the whole
ninety minutes putting in some of the worst tackles
I have ever seen in 20 years of football. Their
intent was there straight from the kick off when
Neil Kirkpatrick was scathed down in the 1st minute
from behind. Two minutes later Waleed Bakali was
taken out has he sped up the line. The 1st half was
littered with horrendous tackles that went
unpunished by the referee. Trowbridge took the lead
when Steve Wickins scored smartly from the edge of
the area ,but Hilperton soon equalised with a good
finish that left the Trowbridge goalkeeper with no
chance. Trowbridge restored their lead when the once
again impressive Simon Kitchen scored his first of
the season following good work from Ricky Hulbert,
Lewis Haldane & David Percival. The second half got
no better with the referee continuing to turn a
blind eye to the bad tackles. Steve Wickins got his
secind of the game and should have secured his
hat-trick but missed a relatively easy chance. . He
did make amends when David Percival put in a good
cross for him to score his third (5 goals in two and
a half games). Hilperton did pull 1 back with a good
shot that ended in the top corner, but Trowbridge
made the game safe when Lewis Haldane scored to make
it 5-2. As the game was coming to a end, a ugly
incident occurred. A Hilperton striker blatantly
took out the Trowbridge Goalkeeper. A confrontation
between a few players followed and a few punches
were thrown by the Hilperton players. A spectator
also ran onto the pitch & kicked Andy Bonser in the
head which led to him having blood flowing from a
cut to the eye, a Hilperton Player was then sent
off. The young Trowbridge side saw the different
side of the game today, & to their credit came
through it unscathed, today you can honestly say
that football was certainly not the winner!
16th March February 2002 Steeple Ashton 0
Trowbridge Town Reserves 8
After another long lay off due to
match cancellations, Trowbridge soon blew away the
cobwebs in this important league game. Trowbridge
started briskly and were soon to take the lead when
David Percival jinked past several defenders to
slot home the 1st. They continued to dominant the
1st half but were only rewarded with one more goal
which was scored by Lewis Haldane following a
rebound from the Ashton 'keeper. The back 3 of Neil
Kirkpatrick, Andy Bonser & Luke Smith kept the
Steeple Ashton chances to few and when Craig
Guthrie, The Trowbridge 'keeper was called into
action, he dealt with everything
efficiently. Trowbridge came out in the 2nd half and
continued to bombard the Steeple Ashton defence
which was being marshalled by former Bees star David
Milson. Trowbridge scored 6 more times through Lewis
Haldane (3), taking his
tally to 22 from 12 games, David Percival completing
his hat-trick & the impressive Steve Wickins,
scoring on his league debut. Trowbridge played well
again today with all the players playing well
especially the wing backs, 15 year old Ricky Hulbert
& 17 year old Waleed Bakali who never stopped
running all game. The only sour point of the game
was Lewis Haldane being booked in the final stages
for arguing with the referee for the umpteenth time.
All in all a good day at the office for the
improving young Reserves.
23rd February 2002 Bratton Reserves 0
Trowbridge Town Reserves 7
This was Trowbridge's 1st game in 6
weeks, but due to the reserves commitment to
training both on Saturdays & Wednesdays when there
are no games their fitness was never going to be in
doubt. Trowbridge started brightly & were unlucky
not to take the lead in the 1st couple of minutes
when David Percival & Lewis Haldane both went close.
Chances continued to fall to Trowbridge But they did
not break the deadlock until the 20th minute when
Lewis Haldane slotted the 1st goal away. David
Percival soon made it 2. Trowbridge's passing &
movement was superb throughout the game on a awful
pitch at Bratton. Trowbridge scored 2 more before
half time both scored by the sharp Lewis Haldane.
After half-time Trowbridge made several changes with
the impressive trio of Andy Bonser, Luke Turvey &
the debutant Rickey Hulbert making way for Craig
Humble, Steve Jackson & Steve Wickings. The changes
made no difference to Trowbridge who continued to
pile on the pressure and scored 3 more times from
Lewis Haldane, David Percival & Steve Wickings
scoring on his debut. Trowbridge's hard work in
training during the postponement of recent games
really showed today, their commitment cannot be
questioned and today they reaped the rewards. Lets
hope they can continue this form to the end of the
very successful season so far.
19th January 2002 Frome Sporthouse 2
TrowbridgeTown Reserves 0
(K.O. Cup)
Trowbridge took on High flying 1st
division outfit Frome Sportshouse in the Knockout
Cup today. Trowbridge started brightly and really
dominated the game making Frome chase everything for
the 1st 30 minutes, they were unlucky not to be
rewarded when a Daniel Barnes header hit the cross
bar. After 30 minutes the game changed due to the
weather conditions, the heavens opened
and the wind really picked up causing the game to
deteriorate as a spectacle of a good passing
football into more of a lottery.
As the 2nd half started the game went from end to
end with both goalkeepers playing well in the
terrible conditions. Trowbridge thought they had
taken the lead when a Lewis Haldane header was
harshly ruled offside. As the pitch became a mud
bath & with both teams struggling to keep their
feet, Frome took the lead when a miss-hit cross-shot
ended up in the back of the Trowbridge
net. As Trowbridge tried to battle back they could
not find a way through & knew their luck was out
when the impressive Waleed Bakali hit the cross bar
and the ball dropped straight back into the
Goalkeepers hands. As Trowbridge pushed forward they
were hit by a late goal when the otherwise faultless
Craig Guthrie spilled a cross for a Frome player to
tap home an undeserved 2nd goal. Trowbridge played
well today against higher opposition & if the
weather, pitch & conditions had stayed okay would
have have come away with a result, as the referee
said afterwards he should have abandoned the game,
but that about sums up Trowbridge's luck on the day.
Football was definitely not the winner
12th January 2002 Cross Keys Rowde 2
Trowbridge Town Reserves 1
Trowbridge's unbeaten run finally
came to a end today, when a average Rowde team made
Trowbridge look down right awful. On a pitch that
was heavy from the start Trowbridge started brightly
& had two early goals disallowed for offside, after
20 minutes they did take the lead when a through
ball found Lewis Haldane who neatly slotted home.
Trowbridge seemed to turn off after
that & were punished when a free kick was knocked in
& there was a Rowde player there to take in a simple
chance. There were little chances created in the
rest of the 1st half, the best falling to Simon
Kitchen & Luke Turvey who both missed the target.
Trowbridge came out in the 2nd half & seemed to
forget all the good things that have put them to the
top of the league, their shape was poor, movement
was non-existent & their passing was dreadful. They
were punished midway through the 2nd half when the
midfield did not get back & another cross left a
Rowde player free to make it 2-1..Trowbridge could
not pick themselves up and struggled to create
anything but may have found themselves unlucky when
a late Lewis Haldane chance hit the bar & when the
referee pointed to the spot in the last minute only
to change his mind & book a Trowbridge player for
diving!!! Trowbridge as a team today were poor but
they must pick themselves up for next weeks quarter
final cup tie away at 1st division Frome Sportshouse
or they could be on a hiding to nothing. Lets hope
for the young players it is just a blip in their so
far impressive debut season.
5th January 2002 Rudloe 2 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 6
Trowbridge started the New Year with
a win away at Rudloe. Rudloe started brightly
fighting & scrapping for every ball, keeping the
referee busy with some hefty challenges. They took
the lead when a cross shot caught Craig Guthrie by
surprise & looped into the top corner. This seemed
to spark Trowbridge to life & they were soon on
level terms when a good cross from Lewis Haldane was
finished by a fine header from David Percival. The
score stayed the same until half-time with
Trowbridge creating the slightly better chances. As
the pitch cut up in the 2nd half the game as a
spectacle deteriorated with it. Trowbridge took the
lead when David Percival scored his 2nd of the game.
Trowbridge dominated the 2nd half & took full
advantage of the extra man, after Rudloe had a
player sent off. Trowbridge scored again through a
own goal and then another via a deft header from
Steve Jackson. Rudloe did pull a goal back, but this
spurred Trowbridge on to score 2 more goals from
Chris Tricker & David Percival completing his much
deserved hat-trick. Trowbridge did not play well
today but there was some bright moments including
the return of long term injury victim Andrew
Bloodworth & the performance of the ever improving
David Percival who with Lewis Haldane up front
continue to cause many defences problems.
.
22nd December 2001 Freshford United
2Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
After last weeks convincing win
against Broughton Gifford, Trowbridge knew that this
week game against Freshford would be their toughest
challenge yet, after losing 4-0 earlier in the
season in the cup. Trowbridge started brightly
passing the ball neatly and again moving well with
both the forwards looking dangerous. Trowbridge took
the lead after about 20 minutes when a long
clearance from Craig Guthrie in the Trowbridge goal
was flicked on by David Percival for Lewis Haldane
to volley home from 30 yards out. If the crowd
thought that goal was good the 2nd ,10 minutes later
was even better when running through again Lewis
Haldane crashed the ball home from the edge of the
area to make it 2-0. Trowbridge then took their foot
of the pedal &
were caught out by some sloppy play in midfield for
Freshford to break through to pull a goal back just
before half-time
The 2nd half Trowbridge battled hard as Freshford
came hard at the Trowbridge defence which was
marshaled superbly well by captain Neil Kirkpatrick.
Freshford were then awarded a controversial penalty
which they converted to make it all square.
Trowbridge picked themselves up & made it 3-2 with
10 minutes remaining when David Percival scored with
another
fantastic finish. Trowbridge then could have made
the game safe when Tricker & Percival missed
glorious chances. Freshford never gave up & were
unlucky not to equalise but two world class saves
from Guthrie kept Trowbridge's lead in tact & kept
them 5 point clear at the top of the table.
15th December 2001Trowbridge Town
Reserves 9 Broughton Gifford Res 0
In front of another big crowd,
Trowbridge were desperate to send the loyal fans
home with a good exciting win, after last weeks
below par performance and they certainly did not let
them down. Trowbridge started of at a cracking rate
and soon found themselves 2-0 up through Waleed
Bakali & Lewis Haldane both finishing good team
moves. Craig Guthrie in the Trowbridge goal then
pulled of a couple of good saves to keep the lead.
After this Trowbridge never looked back and
literally dominated the rest of the game, probably
producing their best performance of the season,
goals came at a good rate with Chris Tricker getting
two before half-time. Trowbridge came out for the
2nd half and just battered the Broughton defence
from the whistle, scoring 5 more times shared
between Chris Tricker (2), Lewis Haldane securing
his 2nd hat-trick of the season and Neil Kirkpatrick
converting a penalty. Trowbridge were superb today,
their passing, movement and finishing was a joy to
watch, they just need to keep up
these performances if they want to win the title
this season and in this form they will have a great
chance.
8th December 2001Trowbridge Town Reserves
2 Bradford Sports Res 0
(KO Cup)
Trowbridge took on Bradford for the
2nd this season, in front of a large crowd at
Woodmarsh. With Veteran Neil Kirkpatrick starting
for the 1st time this season after breaking his
ankle this summer & a few regulars on the bench,
Trowbridge didn't play to their full potential on a
very sticky pitch. Trowbridge had the lions share of
the pressure but couldn't convert this to many
chances in the 1st half, just having a couple of
half chances falling to strikers Steve Jackson &
Lewis Haldane. Trowbridge nearly went one down when
a speculative shot ended in the back of their net
but was adjudged to be offside. The 1st half ended
0-0 Trowbridge came out in the 2nd half & looked to
be more decisive in their passing & movement and
were rewarded when substitute David Percival
finished well in the middle of the 2nd half.
Trowbridge continued to dominate and their score was
doubled in the 85th minute when another substitute,
David Campbell scored his 1st goal this season
rounding of a good move involving a number of
Trowbridge players. Trowbridge were not great today
but when teams come & try just to keep the score
down it shows how far the youngsters have come this
season & the respect that other teams are now
showing them. Sometimes the football has to come 2nd
to the result & this was true today .
1st December 2001 Blue Circle 3
Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
Trowbridge Town travelled away for
only the 4th time this season and with the 1st team
not having a match a few players played for the
reserves in this fixture. Trowbridge started very
brightly and pressed Blue Circle from the kick off,
creating a couple of chances falling to David
Percival & Steve Jackson. With their passing game in
full flow Trowbridge thought they had taken the lead
when a shot from Luke Turvey was followed in by Lee
Wilson, after a couple of moments the referee
decided it was offside. This was the start of some
of the worst refereeing decisions I have ever seen
in football. Trowbridge did take the lead when David
Percival made a good run into the box to square for
Steve Jackson to score from close range. Blue Circle
equalised on the stroke of half time when the
unfortunate Waleed Bakali put in to his own net. In
the second half, Trowbridge continued to push on but
were caught when a cross came in and left the Blue
Circle striker a simple tap in. Lewis Haldane came
on for Trowbridge and was quickly rewarded with the
equaliser following a good header. As Trowbridge
continued to play well they were caught again, but
this time the Blue Circle player seemed to be yards
offside. With the Linesman flagging the referee went
to blow then let play continue for Blue Circle to
score. Trowbridge managed to equalise again after a
smart move involving Luke Turvey & Lewis Haldane
which was well finished by the latter. With about 5
minutes remaining the referee blew for full time
leaving both teams bemused at his antics. Trowbridge
played well again today & should have left with both
points but were thwarted by a couple of individual
errors & some terrible refereeing decisions.
24th November 2001 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 1 Steeple Ashton 1
Trowbridge Reserves probably
produced one of their worst performances of the
season, in a game which, on paper they should have
won. Missing a few key players and with 7 or 8
players having their poorest games of the season,
Trowbridge were happy to come away from this game
with a point. From the first whistle Steeple Ashton
were sharper and were really up for the game,
creating a good couple of chances in the frist half
which were both well saved by the David Burrows in
the Trowbridge goal. Trowbridge seemed to lose the
art of passing and their first touch throughout the
team, was dreadful at times. Coming in at half time
0-0, the Trowbridge faithful didn't think they could
play so badly again in the 2nd half. Things got
worse as Trowbridge struggled to make any clear
chances and then were caught on the break when two
players were left unmarked in the box and
following a rebound of the keeper, Steeple Ashton
took the lead. With fifteen minutes remaining,
Trowbridge finally came to life and began to produce
the form that took them top of the league. David
Percival following a good run, was unlucky not to
equalise and Neil Kirkpatrick's shot was superbly
saved by the Steeple Ashton Keeper. With time
running out Adrian Barnes, the Trowbridge Captain
intercepted in his own half, and after making a
surging run fed the ball to Chris Tricker who fired
home from the edge of the area to equalise with
minutes to go. Trowbridge could have snatched the
lead in the last couple of minutes but were again
thwarted by some good goal-keeping. Trowbridge were
poor today but when the team is so young we must
expect this every so often, it is just disappointing
that so many players under performed. The only good
point is they still remain unbeaten!
17th November 2001 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 7 Hilperton United 1
After last weeks below par
performance, Trowbridge had a point to prove and how
they did! A young Trowbridge Team without a number
of players due to 1st team call ups, including the
experienced Andy Bonser, soon got into their stride
passing and moving the ball throughout the team at
a fantastic pace. It took 20 minutes to break
Hilperton down when David Percival finished from
close range after Steve Jacksons shot was partially
stopped by the eccentric Hilperton 'keeper. Waleed
Bakali made it two soon after with a sharp volley
from a good Luke Turvey cross. Steve Jackson then
made it three with his 1st of the season. Luke
Turvey then scored another wonder goal to add to his
tally this season with a 30 yard effort, just before
half time, Hilperton pulled a goal back through a
soft effort from Steve Lewin. A couple of changes at
half time freshened things up and Trowbridge
maintained their high work rate in the 2nd half. As
Hilperton got more physical Trowbridge kept there
heads & were rewarded with 3 more goals coming from
Chris Tricker, Steve Jackson & David Percival.
Percival was unlucky not to get his hat-trick when
he was hauled down by the 'keeper clean through on
goal. Amazingly he was not even cautioned. So the
run of good form continues for this young team and
deservedly so, with their all round game & fitness
hopefully getting better with each match. The
support from the Trowbridge faithful has been
excellent and I hope they have been repaid with the
kind of football they want to see.
10th November 2001 Trowbridge Town
Reserves 3 Bratton 1
After last weeks excellent
performance against Broughton Gifford, good things
were expected against lowly Bratton Reserves, what a
difference a week makes! Trowbridge started
brightly, quickly moving into their good passing
game, but came up against stubborn defending from a
spirited Bratton team. Trowbridge had a couple of
chances falling to Chris Tricker & Steve Jackson
early on ,but neither were converted. Trowbridge
finally scored after numerous attacks when Chris
Tricker nipped in at the back post to score from
Steve Jackson's knock down. Trowbridge then seemed
to lose all concentration and probably for the next
30 minutes played as badly as they have done all
season. In the 2nd half Trowbridge's sloppy play
cost them dearly when Bratton broke and poor
defending together with with a fantastic strike
brought Bratton level. Trowbridge decided to freshen
things up and made substitutions, bringing on
veteran striker Neil Kirkpatrick for his first
appearance since breaking his ankle in the summer.
His first contribution was to score from the penalty
spot after Chris Tricker was brought down following
a wonderful through ball from Luke Turvey.
Trowbridge finally made the game safe in the final
moments, when David Percival ran through to finish
sharply to round of a 3-1 win. Trowbridge knew they
had played poorly today but managed to still keep
top spot in the division, lets hope things improve
for next weeks visit of Hilperton Utd.
3rd November 2001 Broughton Gifford Res 1
Trowbridge Town Res 4
Trowbridge moved to the top of the
table with another good performance away to a strong
Broughton team. Trowbridge dominated the 1st half
with a good slick passing performance & were
rewarded with 3 quick goals in a 15 minute spell.
The 1st goal came after a good clearance from the
Trowbridge keeper fell at the feet of David
Percival, he then ran half the length of the pitch
to calmly slot it past the Broughton keeper, soon
afterwards he doubled his tally with another well
taken goal to give Trowbridge a bit of breathing
space. Steve Jackson, up front with David Percival
and a fine debut, was unlucky not to get on the
score sheet when a good save from the keeper denied
him of a debut goal. Just before the break 16 year
old Luke Turvey scored his 3rd goal in as many games
with another great strike from the edge of the area.
Trowbridge came out in the 2nd half & started well
continuing to dominate, but after a couple of
changes fell away & let in a goal from a corner,
after this Broughton came strong at Trowbridge and
were unlucky not to have a penalty but the referee
decided not to give it. Chris Vaughan in the
Trowbridge goal then produced two magnificent saves
to keep Broughton at bay & with time running out
Trowbridge broke quickly & substitute Mark Billett
made the game safe to put Trowbridge on top of the
table for the 1st time this season.
Again Trowbridge played well on a very hard surface
with the grass being so long, & good performances
were put in by all the team, with special mentions
going to Nick Gleeson & Steve Jackson on such
impressive debuts, this causing many selection
problems when the unavailable Waleed Bakili, Joel
Geogarahn & Simon Kitchen hopefully return to the
squad for next weeks game
20th October 2001 Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
Rudloe 0
Trowbridge's league run continued
with a emphatic 3-0 home win over Rudloe. With all
eyes on Trowbridge's Keeper Chris Vaughan, after
last weeks performance, the whole team produced
probably their best performance of the season. With
Trowbridge kicking up the slope in the 1st half,
they created a few chances with the best falling to
Mark Billet who was denied by some good goalkeeping
by the Rudloe keeper. Trowbridge came out in the 2nd
half and piled on the pressure & were unlucky not to
take the lead when David Percival following a fine
run somehow managed not to score with only the
keeper to beat. Trowbridge made two substitutions
and were rewarded with instant success when Lewis
Haldane's shot was blocked but Luke Turvey was there
to knock in the rebound. Lewis Haldane then read a
poor back pass to round the keeper to make it 2-0.
Pete Watson finished the scoring when he finished
well from the edge of the area to make the game safe
at 3-0. Trowbridge played well as a unit with the
back 3 of Adrian Barnes, Adam Glover Rob Coombes all
playing confidently & were well supported by the
whole of the midfield, Luke Turvey, Simon Kitchen,
David Campbell, Waleeed Bakali & Lee Wilson. Pete
Watson & Lewis Haldane made massive contributions
when they came on and were well rewarded with both
of them scoring.
13th October 2001 Trowbridge Town Reserves 3
Freshford United 3
Trowbridge Town maintained there
unbeaten start to the league season, but could not
keep up there 100% record, when Freshford equalised
in the dying moments of the game. Trowbridge went
1-0 down after 5 minutes when a soft shot somehow
beat Chris Vaughan, the Trowbridge keeper. It got
worse for Trowbridge when another mistake by the
keeper from a free-kick put Freshford 2-0 up.
Trowbridge then came alive and there was only one
team in the game. They scored before half-time when
16 year old Luke Turvey produced a fantastic lob to
bring Trowbridge back into the game. After half-time
Trowbridge dominated with their slick passing &
moving and were rarely troubled by Freshford's long
ball over the top. They were also well marshalled in
defence by Andy Bonser, with Adam Glover Luke Smith
& Adrian Barnes all looking comfortable when called
upon. Trowbridge equalised when a mistake by the
Freshford keeper let in Mark Billet to score, soon
afterwards David Percival scored a sharp volley to
give Trowbridge the lead. The game should have been
finished when Gavin Targett rounded the keeper and
was hauled to the ground.. The crowd waited for the
keeper to be sent off but he survived with only a
yellow, much to the astonishment of everyone.
Trowbridge continued to pressure and looked
comfortable in all areas when in the last moments of
the game a soft shot bounced over the advancing
Chris Vaughan to round of a miserable day, for the
Trowbridge keeper. There was no time left and
Trowbridge were left wondering how they did not
manage to take maximum points from this game.

Trowbridge's unbeaten run came to a
sudden halt at Freshford. Trowbridge missing key
players never got started in this game and were
punished for sloppy all round play throughout the
team. Freshford took the lead after a dreadful mix
up between the defence & goalkeeper let in Russel
Stritch to score with ease. It got worse for
Trowbridge after a weak free-kick somehow slipped in
between post & David Burrows to make it 2-0.
Trowbridge tried to play football but the small
pitch did not help them & with Freshford happy to
pump the long ball over the top, Trowbridge's young
defence could not cope with this. Lewis Haldane
thought he had pulled one back just before
half-time, but this was ruled out after the linesman
adjudged him to be off-side.
The 2nd half got no better & with Trowbridge pushing
for goals were again caught napping with the ball
over the top to finally lose 4-0. The scoreline
probably does not reflect the game, but this
Trowbridge team are going to have to learn quickly &
adapt to the way some teams play in these divisions
or they will continue to learn the hard way.

Trowbridge Town Reserves travelled
away for the 1st time this season to Green Lane in
Devizes. Trowbridge started well & nearly scored
within a few minutes when David Percival ran through
but was thwarted by some good goalkeeping!! . Nerves
were settled after 10 minutes when Mike Little
scored to put Trowbridge ahead. Goals followed at a
consistent rate coming from Lewis Haldane, Mike
Little & David Percival to make the game safe at
half time 6-0. Substitutions were made at half-time
and this did not affect Trowbridges' good passing
game and were well rewarded with further goals
coming from Lewis Haldane (completing his Hat-trick)
Mike Little getting 5 & a debut goal from Mark
Billet who was playing his 1st game for 18 months
after being out with a serious knee injury. Many
positives came out of the game with a good
performance from the back 5 who kept their 3rd clean
sheet in a row. Simon Kitchen & David Percival
bossed the centre of midfield and were full of
running. With a good team performance all players
went home satisfied with their afternoons work & now
are knocking on the door of the 1st team. WELL
PLAYED LADS!!!

Trowbridge Town Reserves 3 Cross Keys Rowde 0
Trowbridge Reserves continued there
good start to the season by comfortably beating
Cross Keys Rowde 3-0, poor David Burrows in goal had
little to do again. Trowbridge took control after
about 10 minutes with Lewis Haldane missing a good
chance after beating 2 players. Jerad O' Pray calmed
nerves after scoring his 2nd goal in two games after
a good cross from Waleed Bakali.
Trowbridge continued to keep good possession and
scored a 2nd through Lewis Haldane following up from
a fierce drive from Jerome Thomas. David Percival
could have wrapped up the game, but after finding
himself in good positions twice he squandered both
chances. Trowbridge pushed forward early in the 2nd
half and Lewis scored a 2nd goal with a superb shot
from 20 yards to make the game safe. He could have
had his hat trick, but his 30yd effort just hit the
upright. Trowbridge held the ball well in the last
20minutes but created no other chances, overall a
well deserved victory keeping the team on the right
course.

In a game that Trowbridge dominated,
where chances were plentiful, Trowbridge managed
only to score 1 goal through Jerad O'Pray late in
the 2nd half. After a nervy start Trowbridge soon
took control with chances coming from many players
including Lewis Haldane, David Percival, Luke Smith
& Simon Kitchen all missing good chances in the 1st
half. Bradford never looked like scoring & David
Burrows in the Trowbridge Goal was a spectator for
most of the game, being called into action on rare
occasions. More chances came in the 2nd half and
went missing, but with 10 minutes remaining Jerad O
Pray made the game safe with a header that finally
managed to beat the Bradford Goalkeeper (who did
have a superb game). Trowbridge should have won the
game comfortably but at the end of the day they got
the result in front of a large crowd and are up &
running. |
